Final Fantasy XIV Updates: Interview with Yoshida Reveals Some New Information Regarding Patch 4.1

With many great thanks to a user on the Final Fantasy XIV sub-reddit for translating several Japanese articles, some new information regarding Patch 4.1 has been revealed. And with the next Letter from the Producer Live scheduled for this upcoming Friday (September 1st) during the Four-Year Anniversary Broadcast, some of the things mentioned in this interview could be elaborated on during the letter.

As mentioned by the reddit user, some of the translations are a little rough and the original post will be edited as the thread progresses.

General information:

  • Pre-patch 4.1 will see small updates to make PVP adjustments.
  • Royal Menagerie Extreme has been confirmed.
  • They are adding more ways for players to utilize clan mark logs and Grand Company currencies, like exchanging currencies for more items.
  • There might be plans to implement upgrades to Weathered equipment(Gear you receive from job quests) in the future.
  • They are starting to turn their attention toward a Glamour System.
  • They want to expand inventory slots / the amount of items a player can hold, and also have smartphone app features linked to the game. (Possibly to manage inventory while on your phone)
  • 4.1 will see the addition of cross-server whispers and a cross-server friendlist.
  • A “group chat”-like feature will be implemented in patch 4.2, it is currently in the works.
  • On the subject of making items stackable up to 999, they couldn’t make it for 4.1.
  • Return to Ivalice will contain a lot of spoilers, so they will only be introducing parts of it. (Possibly meaning on social media and during the liveletter)
  • The 4.1 content to be showcased in the upcoming liveletter might be revealed without holding back. So all of it will be “disclosed.”
  • For a more in-depth look at patch 4.1, they may make Part 2 to look deeper into the upcoming content.
  • They will also be announcing a new high difficulty mode, harder than Omega Delta Savage, in the upcoming letter as well.
  • “NGC Crafting Committee might create a whole load of original quests for the upcoming 14 hour broadcast.”
  • There may be a lot of surprises for Tanaka Rie(Japanese VA for Sophia, Kan-E-Senna and Sadu), related to the costume she will be wearing? And also from Yoshino Nanjo (Krile Mayer Baldesion)’s web radio corner (Named: Eorzea yori ai wo komete, From Eorzea With Love).
  • Conversation with Akihiro Hino (Level 5 CEO) will be more about the comparison between online games from the past to present.
  • “On their opinion about Omega Delta Savage difficulty: Roughly as expected.”
  • “Compared to before, a lot of people are clearing the tier. (A lot of the players cleared 2nd floor, though many are stuck and are struggling with O3S and O4S)”
  • The designer for the upcoming Beyond Savage mode, Sudo Kenji, mumbled a lot of unsettling words during the planning stages, and this new mode seems like it may be epic. (The translator left a note: “Have to elaborate on this one: it’s more on the scale of dreadful, terrifying and breathless, but again, since we don’t know how it’s like yet…”epic” is more suitable of a word until the patch is released and live.”)
  • This new Beyond Savage mode is going to be the hardest of them all since Sudo Kenji joined the team.
  • “The difficulty is roughly about the same as The Second Coil of Bahamut Savage. (In YoshiP’s words: “Please think of the difficulty to be somewhere around Second Coil Savage”)”
  • There is no story prepared for Beyond Savage.
  • Banri Oda (World Setting/Scenario Writer) wrote the story for Ala Mhigo up to Kugane, while Natsuki Ishikawa mainly did the eastern side of the stories.
  • There are no plans for adding more Aetherytes in the future.
  • “Though there are plenty of places like Ame no Mihashira contains load of meanings but is otherwise unused…maybe it will be used in the future?”
  • It is uncertain if Magnai will appear in future content, and while they have some ideas for him, nothing is confirmed.
  • If any new swimming related content is added, it will involve more of the 4.0 areas.
  • Jump Potions were not used as much as people thought they would be.
  • No collab announcements with Youkai Watch.
  • There is a possibility that 4.x series will contain Patch 4.6, 4.7 and so on.

Other:

  • When asked if Yoshida was interested in adding more language support to the game, he mentioned he wanted it, but the risk of adding too many languages may break down the scenario team. Not to mention they would have to rely on other translation companies in order to get the content out.
  • Outside of Japan, Europe was the one that saw the highest player increase thanks to outside collaborations and promotions.
  • Related to the forums: Since the majority of people who use the Official Forums speak English, Yoshida sees little point in adding other forum language support. To elaborate on that; taking the posting frequency into consideration, the moment more language support is added, the more it will slow down other things(possibly meaning dev response). So for the time being, utilizing the English forums will get faster responses and will get feedback relayed faster.
