Watch: Final Fantasy XV PlayStation Access Interview With Hajime Tabata

August 30th, 2016 by Natalie

PlayStation Access has uploaded an interview with Hajime Tabata, Final Fantasy XV‘s director. The interview was conducted a few weeks ago at Gamescom 2016, and reveals the director’s thoughts and insights into the game’s delay, the technical challenges that the development team is facing, the new magic system, and more.

Tabata shares that the team plans to fix a variety of issues in the extra two months that they have been able to get for the game’s release. For one, they are working on certain cosmetic issues that don’t affect the gameplay; things like character positioning, flickering, and overall visual quality. They are also fixing other issues that affect the overall flow of the gameplay such as unexpected loading in parts of the game that aren’t supposed to have any loading, among other issues.

Tabata then moves on to discuss the game’s unique magic system, explaining that the goal in the magic system was to instill a feeling that the magic is not unlike the physics of our world, making the magic feel like a physical phenomenon and thus staying true to the “a fantasy based on reality” concept. Rather than a huge variety of spells, the team focused on a smaller set of individual and intricately designed spells that can be changed and transformed through crafting to the player’s liking. The magic system is more experimental, and you will be encouraged to combine different magic and items in order to form unique spells.

Finally, Tabata touches on the outfit customization for the main party and the customization for the car, as well as the topic of future DLC. Check out what he says in the interview! What are your current feelings about the magic system? How about the comments regarding the currently announced DLC? Let us know in the comments and feel free to discuss.

Final Fantasy XV will be released on November 29th, 2016 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is out now for digital purchase – we will have a review of the movie for you all very soon!
