Square Enix Announces FFXV Product Placement

March 12th, 2015 by Sharjeel Hanif

Eagle-eyed fans poring over Final Fantasy XV screenshots in recent weeks may have noticed a familiar logo appear on some of the camping supplies that Noctis and his party use over the course of their adventure. Coleman, known for selling a wide variety of camping supplies such as tents, lanterns, and so on — will be partnering with the company for a product placement deal.

Of course, this brings up a new question regarding Final Fantasy XV‘s “fantasy based on reality” ambition — with the appearance of real-world product placement in the game, does this undermine the game’s setting? Also, will this be the only real world brand that will be seen in Final Fantasy XV?

It’s nice that Square Enix is exploring new avenues of revenue. I look forward to the game being sold at a more reasonable price point as a result.

    lolno

we’ve never heard of Coleman over here in the UK (or most of the world for that matter), so i don’t think it will bother a lot of people. Besides, in this current day and age where ads are everywhere, no one really pays attention to them in that much detail. It nice a nifty idea though to have real world stuff implemented in the game.

actually Coleman products are very big in Japan and the states.

To me it feels a bit tacky…

Another reason to skip this abomination of a Final Fantasy.

Well that’s kind of unfortunate. As long as it’s only in the background and doesn’t come up in dialogue, I guess it’s not too big a deal…

when noctis is defying gravity to run up titans back and teleport between airships with a giant flying summon fighting, i dont think anything can undermine the setting and atmosphere/aesthetic

I’ve only been camping a few times so I’ve never heard of Coleman. Anyway, I don’t see how this changes the game in any way. As for whether it undermines the setting, they did say fantasy based on “reality” so it seems reasonable to have real world product placement. Back in the early Versus XIII days, they were talking about how all the clothes were designed by a real life clothing brand, so this is nothing new.
