Game Informer sat down with Final Fantasy XV producer Haruyoshi Sawatari at PAX East 2017 last weekend to talk about the upcoming Episode Gladiolus DLC and more.
The very first thing clarified is the DLC’s length, which is reportedly going to be around an hour and a half on a normal playthrough. It’s assured to be crammed full of rich content despite how it may feel short for some fans. Additional modes will also be unlocked after the initial completion.
The formation of the DLC’s gameplay design depended a lot on Gladiolus’ character traits: his brute strength and physicality, which resulted into a newly modified system different to that of the base game’s which was designed mostly around Noctis’ fighting style. The team made sure its impact would be on par with the base game’s. A lot of the DLC’s mechanics will definitely have a feel that is only original to Gladiolus’ character.
On the topic of Chapter 13, there will be new separate routes for Gladiolus and Ignis in the upcoming update. You’ll get to play as Gladio and view new cutscenes that were not showed in the main game. These additional cutscenes will also show what happened to Emperor Aldercapt and Ravus, whose situations were not clarified in the main game and therefore created confusion among the players. Noctis’ ring magic will also receive some upgrades, described to be much more powerful after the update.
The interview goes on to talk about more of Sawatari’s personal thoughts, such as his favorite FF, in which he answered to be FFX. His favorite boss from the series is Ardyn as he was gripped by his character traits and motivations, and his favorite character in XV is Prompto.
