Final Fantasy XV PAX Panel Recap

September 3rd, 2016 by Natalie

Earlier today, Square Enix presents held a Final Fantasy XV panel featuring Mat Kishimoto (Senior Product Manager), Hajime Tabata (Final Fantasy XV director), Wan Hazmer (Lead Game Designer) and Raio Mitsuno (Global Brand).

While there were no new CGI trailers or cutscenes shown, there was plenty of live, raw footage showed off to the panel attendees and stream watchers. Most of the footage focused on a never before seen location: a dungeon known as the Balouve Mines. They purposely showed this location, which can be accessed from the start of the game, for the sake of steering clear from possibly showing too much information about the main story.

As Noctis stands on a platform and looks out to the expansive world in front of him with mountains in the background, Tabata says that you can go everywhere — “as far as the eye can see.” He also shares that the driving mechanics have been updated to give players a bit more freedom on the road, but you will have to nonetheless stick to the roads.

In the Balouve Mines, Noctis and his party encounter a great amount of goblins, whom have been said to have the ability to take potions from your inventory when their health becomes too low. The team gives you another look at the menu, crafting magic, and the battle system, which have all been updated over time to reach this final look.

After showing the dungeon, the team momentarily showed some footage of intense battles in the Niflheim Base, with a surprise appearance from the anticipated dragoon character, Aranea Highwind towards the end.

Final Fantasy XV is slated to have a worldwide release on November 29, 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
