Final Fantasy XV Active Time Report January 2016 + Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV Event Information

January 31st, 2016 by Arielle

Uncovered FFXV

During today’s Active Time Report, director Hajime Tabata and marketing manager Akio Ofuji discussed a great deal of new information about Final Fantasy XV including a look at the new user interface (UI), magic system, weapon switching, characters, and the upcoming March event.

Progress Report 2.0

The Active Time Report started with the final Progress Report for Final Fantasy XV that was recorded back in August/September of 2015, showing off new enemy attacks, battle animations including updated aerial combat, stains from dodge rolling in the field, the animation for pushing the car when it runs out of gas, as well as the completed locomotion for the Frog status effect on the party.

Magic

When Fire is cast on flammable objects, the spell will burn the surrounding area and spread out, leaving the ground scorched. Fire can also damage Noctis and the party and that is reflected in the way the characters react to the spell. The effectiveness of magic is also dependent on the weather it is being cast in.

There are two different disciplines of magic in Final Fantasy XV, which include natural elemental magic like Fire, Thunder, and Blizzard. The ability to use these spells is gathered across the world of Final Fantasy XV and stored within the player’s inventory, a similar concept how magic is obtained in Final Fantasy VIII. The second discipline of magic is called “ring magic” which can only be used by the “bearer of the royal ring of Lucis.” Elemental magic will be usable from the very beginning of the game whereas “ring magic” will come later on as the game progresses.

Niflheim

Iedolas Aldercapt is the emperor of Niflheim, a “ruthless supremacist” who puts a strong emphasis on territorial expansion although he is semi-retired from politics at the start of the game. Chancellor Ardyn Izunia, the red-haired man first shown in the E3 2013 Final Fantasy XV reveal trailer, is at the center of the political scene in the Niflheim Empire and runs the country. He is considered “shrewd” but plays an important role in the game’s story.

Verstael, the older male also made his first appearance in the E3 2013 reveal trailer, is a researcher in Niflheim who developed the technology for the Magitek Infantry that is comprised of robotic soldiers. There is also General Glauca who runs the imperial military of Niflheim.

The female dragoon who first appeared in the Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer back in 2011 is finally re-revealed as Aranea Highwind. She is the captain of the Niflheim Empire’s Third Army Corps 87th Airborne Unit, often referred to by members of the army as “the dragoon.” Aranea also plays an important role in the story of Final Fantasy XV.

March Event

On March 30th 2016 in Los Angeles, California at 7pm Pacific Time, Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV will be presented at the Shrine Auditorium where the release date of Final Fantasy XV along with pricing and what else will come with the game will be revealed. Tabata also forewarned that there will be another announcement made before discussing the contents of the game at the event.

The name of the playable demo that will be releasing for free to everybody in the future will also be revealed at the March event.

Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV will be hosted by Greg Miller and Tim Gettys from Kinda Funny and ticket reservations will go up this Friday. Reservations can be accessed on the official Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV website. The event will also be livestreamed on YouTube and Twitch for fans who are unable to attend the event.

WHAT’S UP EVERYBODY! Honestly Greg Miller being there is hilarious.

I think everybody is stunned. The guy doesn’t even like FF haha

  • Sora96

Yep. In his defence he’s tried multiple ones including VII but he just doesn’t like them.

At least he tried. Better than some who write the series off without even seeing if a different generation of mainline games or one of the spinoff series may appeal to them better. Maybe FFXV will be the one that clicks with him.
