Still More Surfing:
The End is Nigh

September 17th, 2012 by Tony Garsow

Before Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn can begin, the Final Fantasy XIV as we know it must end. YouTube user NightmareKato has created a trailer involving the Seventh Umbral Era storyline that will inevitably lead to Eorzea’s doom.

It wasn’t all for naught, as the game improved through the diligent efforts of the team from the state it was in at launch. The cutscenes used in the video above illustrate the game’s storytelling technique and paint the themes of an encroaching Empire and the looming moon Dalamud, which swells by the day. Brave heroes from Eorzea’s city-states do their best to stall the empire’s forces, but fear grows every day that the end is near.

We’ll be seeing more of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn this week at Tokyo Game Show and throughout the autumn and winter before relaunch early next year. But for a change of pace — for those of you that have played Final Fantasy XIV at one point another, what are your parting thoughts of 1.0?
