Square Enix’s Gamescom Line-Up

Square Enix will be bringing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call to this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Held between August 13 and August 17th, we can expect updates from these two titles, but surprises aren’t out of the question. Gamescom will also see the return of the battle of the producers — Naoki Yoshida (Final Fantasy XIV) and Ichirou Hazama (Theatrhythm Curtain Call) will reunite for one final bout in Theatrhythm’s new versus mode.

If you’re attending the Square Enix booth, be sure to check out the Final Fantasy XIV Battle Challenge — this time it includes Ramuh, Leviathan, Gilgamesh, and the Frontlines.

Other Square Enix franchises at Gamescom will include Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix and Dragon Quest IV and VIII for smartphones. Square Enix Products will also be at the show to display the latest in the PlayArts line.

  • So basically they’re planning to ride XIV till at least TGS?? I thought they announced Type-0 HD so that they can have something new to show off for the PS4, but apparently they plan on keeping us waiting a few years still. Because, you know, five or ten years isn’t long enough…

    When will they start showing their new gen exclusive games? They’re late and behind most other developers, this is PS3 era all over again…. Seems like their Luminous engine is not ready yet as it was back then with Crystal Tools…

    I wouldn’t even get my hopes up for TGS.
    But ok now seriously speaking…once all of these titles come out. What’s next for SE?
    Type-0 and…? They will be forced to show XV/KHIII?

    It’s 20XIV! Of course they will ride XIV until the end of the year.

    It’s really hard to say at this point! Things have been very quiet with much of a hint that more information is coming anytime soon. While I’m anticipating more about FFXV, Type-0 HD, and KHIII — history has tempered me to be more excited around actual /factual/ information! 😉

    Oh God, I hope not. That dragged too many games down. The original XIV and XIII among them. To be frank, I was slightly worried when they first said that Luminous was being developed alongside XV and was sort of using some of the same resources, even though XV only uses the lighting component, unlike XIII which was entirely built around it and into it. They’re going to start getting flack from their investors and potential publishers if this silence keeps up, let alone the fans.

    Actually, they said it was only using Luminous for the lighting when it was on PS3 because the platform couldnt handle other features of the engine.

    When it was announced that the game shifted totally to next gen consoles, it was said that while Luminous was being finished the game was being created on DirectX11 so that it could be easily ported to consoles after.

    Since it seemed that Luminous engine production was doing great, they said that as soon as a feature of the engine is complete, the assets of the game needed that feature would be ported from DirectX to it so that the final product would be made on Luminous entirely.

    If they got trouble with the production of Luminous, either they’ll have to release FF15 as a DirectX11 created game or delay it until Luminous is ready.

    Anyway, as long as they stay silent, we can only wonder whats going on at SE headquarters.
