With the release of the latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Stormblood, the support for the game’s PlayStation 3 version will come to an end. Until December 31st 2017, PS3 users have the opportunity to upgrade their game license to the PlayStation 4 version free of charge via the upgrade campaign.
The upgrade process will be done through the Final Fantasy XIV: Mog Station. You don’t need to purchase the PS4 version for this free upgrade, however, you will be unable to play your current copy of the PS3 version afterwards. All service account data (characters & items) is guaranteed to be carried over during the process. If you’ve purchased the PS3’s Collector’s Edition, the upgrade will result to you having the PS4’s Collector’s Edition. You don’t need to worry about purchasing Heavensward more than once as well.
Please note that the upgrade cannot be undone. Once the process is complete you’ll get the PS4 code, you must register it on the same PSN account you used to play on the PS3 to avoid complications in future transactions. About transferring save data, you can learn more about it here.
Lastly, automatic payments for 90-day recurring subscriptions will be suspended for PS3 players on March 18th 2017. Players are then asked to renew their subscriptions using shorter subscription periods.
