Square Enix has released a brand new Exploration trailer for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, consisting entirely of in-game footage and from the official benchmark that will be revaled today. In addition that, a brand new video showcasing the world of Eorzea is now available for your viewing pleasure — finally revealing some of the other locales you’ll see in-game. Both PC and PlayStation 3 are represented. The PS3 version is 75% optimized according to media tour attendees.

The team didn’t stop there! A new video detailing the Gampad UI was fully demonstrated by Naoki Yoshida. Check it out below!

    Is there really all that chaos every time you pass by an area? Too chaotic for my taste :(

  2. Tony Garsow says:

    There are staged player characters in some places — they’re the ones that have AF armor on. Not all of them are NPCs.

  3. AnimaMagna says:

    The PC version in the Tour of Eorzea video looks incredible: the graphics, the music, the detail…it almost looks real. But the PS3 version… Ouch. They really need to address the frame-rate, otherwise it will be complaints and complaint-mongers galore.

    Benchmark time! How did you guys do?

    @AnimaMagna
    The PS3 version still has optimization work to be done, but there will be a locked framerate when it releases.

    The lack of detailed textures is killing me.

    I know this is an MMORPG, but these visuals are only decent in polygon count. There’s no detailed textures whatsoever. Not only does FFXIII look better, but so does The Last Remnant and even FFXII running on PCSX2. Nothing in this game comes close to Archades in texture detail.

    The graphics are just not doing it for me. Considering I’d have to buy the game and also pay a monthly subscription, I’m gonna have to pass.

    @TheBadass
    Luckily, there’s more to the game than just textures. ;p

    Well am just amazed of the new footage and I run the benchmark pretty well of course, was already in @ and can’t wait for monday!!

  9. Ehren Rivers says:

    My personal default benchmark score was 4,612. According to the list, I can run the game very well, and should easily be able to play even on higher graphic settings. When I fiddled with the settings of the benchmark to be what I’m more likely to play the game with, I got 4,196 which is still in pretty far up the ‘High’ quality. I don’t know if background applications affect the test, but just to be sure I had Firefox, Google Chrome, Photoshop, RPGMaker VX, Skype, and Minecraft going in the background for both tests.

    Really…? I think most have mentioned this in the past, but the reason FFXIV doesn’t compare to a single player, main numbered final fantasy title, is BECAUSE it is online.

    You can’t run those kind of graphics on a PC and perform the amount of actions required for an online game, it’s just not feasible. Imagine having a player base of 1000 players because no one can run it.

  11. TheBadass says:

    @Cody
    Yeah, I know. I guess my love for detailed textures means MMORPGs are not for me.

  12. AgitoXIII says:

    What’s sad is that the original FFXIV looked BETTER then ARR.

  13. TheBadass says:

    @AgitoXIII
    OK, no need for exaggeration. There’s no way the graphics of FFXIV were better than FFIX ARR.

  14. TheBadass says:

    @AgitoXIII
    If you’d care to clarify in what way FFXIV looks better than FFXIV ARR, I’ll be willing to read it.

  15. AgitoXIII says:

    Well didnt’ they downgrade the graphic abit to make use of better environments and such? The Limit Break Trailer looks somewhat cell shaded…. ish..

    I do think these vids look and sound fantastic. I’m not saying im certain of the final product tho.

  16. AgitoXIII says:

    Well now that I’ve actually saw that first Benchmark trailer, it seemsto have taken snipits from the original Limit Break Trailer and it actually DOES look better. (and the game does have textures >.>)

  17. TheBadass says:

    @AgitoXIII
    Sure, FFXIV ARR has textures, but there’s just not even close to the quality and detail of FFXII, a PS2 game. Alas, I know, you can’t expect that level of detail from a MMORPG.

  18. Cody says:

    To answer both questions, yes FFXIV:AAR has been downgraded, however, its hardly noticeable, what was changed more so than a “down-grade”, is that they have a completely different graphics engine, allowing them to scale the graphics of the game in far greater depths than the original FFXIV. Basically, it can look worse, OR, it can look better than v.1 if you have a strong PC.

    I can’t agree however that FF12 looks better than 14, i mean, ps2 isn’t even a high definition title.

  19. TheBadass says:

    @Cody
    Don’t get me wrong, ARR looks better than FFXII graphically in almost every way; it’s the lack of detailed textures compared to FFXII that I’m not liking. However, I know you can’t expect detailed textures from a MMORPG.

  20. AgitoXIII says:

    The environments look just fine, it’s the human faces and skin that look like there not that detailed…
