Player Housing in Final Fantasy XIV

September 23rd, 2013 by Tony Garsow

If you’re looking for a place to call your own in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the team’s plans for Player Housing should rouse your interest. Houses will be available in Patch 2.1 for individual players to have a place to put their feet up, or for Free Companies to have a headquarters. You’ll be able to choose a plot of three varying sizes in the different housing districts in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul’dah.

The team has created over 300 custom parts for your house, including Final Fantasy-themed items such as a Malboro bookcase or a Behemoth head mount for your walls. Many items will be craft-able by the game’s Disciple of the Hand classes, including tables and chairs from Carpenters or dolls and rugs from Weavers. Some furnishings will require special items, such as a mountable Ifrit head — which you will be able to craft from defeating Ifrit (presumably on Hard difficulty or higher).

Other plans for housing include chocobo stables in your yard, furnishings that provide company-wide buffs, and even a cellar workshop for crafters. Expect housing to be quite costly at the start, as director/producer Yoshi-P has said it would take a large sum of money from levelling several classes to be able to buy your own home.

Patch 2.1 is currently on track to release this year. The team’s ongoing goal for major patch updates is to space them three months apart. Should things remain on schedule, we can expect the first major update to A Realm Reborn to hit around Thanksgiving.
