Letter from the Producer Live XVIII

November 29th, 2014 by Tony Garsow

The Final Fantasy XIV team will air Letter from the Producer Live XVIII from Fukuoka, Japan this morning at 2:30am Pacific Standard Time. We’ll be covering the major details in the post below, where we expect information on Patch 2.45 and beyond.

Stay tuned!

Patch 2.45 arrives December 9th, 2014.

– Adjustments to Dragoon will include buffing their magic defense, which players have found lacking — it’s much easier for Dragoons to die to magical attacks than other Jobs. They don’t want people leaving Dragoons out of parties because of this. Other buffs will include cooldown
– With regard to Ninja, the team says that players have found rotations the team did not discover which led to higher damage output than they anticipated. Going forward, the team will be nerfing Ninja damage and TP cost, but you’ll still be able to use the same rotation. Lag involved with executing mudras is being looked into, though the team admitted it’s hard to reproduce the issue.
– The team is looking into gear that has Skill Speed and Spell Speed that doesn’t really fit with certain Jobs, and going forward they will look into how the gear stats roll out.

– New and unique level three Limit Breaks are planned for Heavensward. Bard’s Limit Break will no longer be a heal. You’ll be able to see them all in the Heavensward benchmark currently being prepared.
– Job quests from Lv. 50 onward in Heavensward will continue with stories and characters from the original questlines.

– The team will be introducing “mid-tier” content in Heavensward for Free Companies called “Free Company Craft”.
– Normal and Hard mode raids will be available in Heavensward.
– Zodiac weapon FATES depend on other FATEs completion in the area, but the team will look into separating them.

– The team still wants to do solo attempts in Light Party dungeons, and are thinking of creating player-controlled units from your Grand Company that you can use and level up to accomplish this.
– New rules for Frontlines will come in Patch 2.5, and it will be added to the Duty Roulette. The team is also planning an expansion of the Wolves’ Den and a new Frontlines map for Heavensward.
– Mid-tier crafting recipes are being considered, as they feel some recipes introduced with Desynthesis are too demanding.
– Acquiring better crafting gear will be slightly easier in Patch 2.45, but they still intend higher level gear to be something of an investment to get. They’ll also be looking into reducing the amount of demimateria required in new recipes from here on.

– The team will look into easier acquisition of the i90 (Mythology) gear that now drops in dungeons
– The next tier of the Zodiac weapon quest chain will see a transformation of the item; the team hints a new model.
– The team will be making a new Stoneskin spell that will hit all players in the party at once.
– Xelphatol Spring Water will cost less Ixali Oaknots, and the team will monitor the price of Ehcatl Sealants.

– DirectX 11 support will come with Heavensward. The team will show off how it looks side-by-side with the current version and in an upcoming benchmark.
– A Mac version is planned to release in late-March/early-April.
– Housing in Ishgard may come later in the Heavensward expansion.

– There aren’t plans to adjust inventory size for fishing items, but the team will consider the amounts of bait in the system.
– The team is making a fake moustache for both men and women. An afro hairstyle is coming.
– The team is still committed to launching a customizable API to change the game’s user interface, but want to make sure it can’t be used to cheat.

– New hairstyles and face paint options may come in future patches.
– The PS3 to PS4 free upgrade period for Final Fantasy XIV will be extended to March 31, 2015.
– A free trial will first be available on PS4 for PS+ subscribers, but will made available for all later.
– The team is currently monitoring players who have upgraded from the PS3 to PS4, and will determine support based on those metrics.

– The process for Eternal Bond involves an application through the MogStation, a special quest that will provide you with rings and attire, choose a type of ceremony, then you can reserve a date and time and send invitations.
– When the day of the ceremony comes, you’ll gather at the Sanctum of the Twelve and cutscenes featuring your characters will play.
– A “Standard” ceremony is free, but if you want to go the extra mile, there is a paid “Gold” ceremony option. It will have differences in the items available. A website detailing this feature is in the works.
