Full Active Time Events in A Realm Reborn

June 13th, 2013 by Tony Garsow

Full Active Time Events, or FATE, are a new type of content in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Designed to be events you can show up to and participate in spontaneously without calling for a party invite, FATE is intended to introduce concepts of teamwork in timed missions without the obligation of a party of more experienced players.

There are many different kinds of FATE, and with regard to combat, there are on varying scales. One one hand you may be forced into a duel with a non-playable character, on the other you have a teamwork-based objective like raiding an enemy stronghold. FATEs will give you an understanding of how your character class or job functions in combat, and put you on track for tackling the more challenging dungeon content. That isn’t to say FATEs will always be easy. Many of them will be quite challenging as they’ll pit you against tough monsters such as Behemoth, and even Primals such as Odin.

Of course, no FATE is without a reward. Experience and company seals are rewarded, and various achievements will likely be added to boot. It’s in your best interest to join a FATE when you see it, to earn some extra points toward the next level, and to help your fellow player of course. If you’re above the suggested level of the FATE, you can use the Level Sync option to scale down to the appropriate range to qualify for rewards.

FATEs will be available for you to try in Phase 3 of Beta Testing, which beings in about six hours! Those of you who have submitted an application to join, check your email to see if you’ve been accepted. If not, don’t worry! New waves of invites are typically sent out weekly, so you’ll have more chances to participate.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn launches on August 27th for PC and PlayStation 3. A 2014 release is planned for PlayStation 4.

Got a beta key thursday, and playing it @ ps3, server bahamut.
I like the transition theyu have done of the mmo commands to the gamepad, it feels very comfortable.

Yesterday I played a lvl.8 FATE (full active time events) at the outsides of Gridania in the forest nearby, but I joined it by mistake while questing. I entered the zone while gathering things from the floor and got invited and a lot of people appeared (I don’t know if they where there or they appeared “summoned” by the FATE system) to kill a bunch of mobs attacking the zone and complete the event goal. Was fast, not to hard but great as an introduction to team playing. Liked it.

It was a great experience! I got my beta key for PS3 on friday and reached lvl 12 gladiator (lvl 2 alchemist). I like how you’re able to change equipment when you change class, I just saw that after a certain lvl there weren’t as many quests available. As for the FATE’s, the cursor goes all over the place and it doesn’t really help to target the enemy when you really need it. I really wanted to see the other towns like Limsa Lominsa as well. Maybe next time. I’m not really sold on this game yet, not sure about buying it, but the graphics do look better than I thought on PS3! Does anyone know if we get another shot at the beta??
