Final Fantasy XIV PS4 Arrives in April

December 3rd, 2013 by Tony Garsow

On tonight’s PlayStation Awards stream from Japan, President Hiroshi Kawano introduced Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn being played on the next-generation console. Director/producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida could be seen streaming the game from his own PlayStation 4 unit — a much-touted feature of Sony’s latest console. Kawano also revealed that A Realm Reborn will launch on PS4 some time in April.

A special beta testing period for PlayStation 4 will commence on February 22nd, when the console launches in Japan. Sony also announced in the same stream that it has already sold 2.1 million PS4s to customers around the globe, and has still to launch in Japan and Asia — markets where it is expected to do quite well. Since A Realm Reborn‘s beta is available at launch for PlayStation 4 fans in Japan and within a close launch window worldwide for audiences abroad, it could potentially be a post-launch boon for the rebooted MMORPG, already seeing subscriptions surpass its predecessor Final Fantasy XI.

In the images below, we also see the game being played on the PlayStation Vita through the console’s Remote Play feature.

Director/producer Yoshida also took home a Special Award for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Are you planning to play Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation Vita? Let us know what you’re excited for in the comments below!

  • Why are they releasing everything on top of each other?? February 22nd when Lightning Returns comes out on the 14th and X/X-2 HD not even a month later?! And we’re just sitting here, twittling our thumbs right now! A smart developer let’s the public absorb one title, get sick of it for a while (like 6 months-1 year), then releases the next one! The way Square-Enix is doing it, people are going to get confused to the extent of not even knowing which is which anymore! Don’t get me wrong, I’ll definitely buy both LR and X/X-2 HD for my PS3 and when I eventually make the move to PS4, I’ll check out XIV since I get it for free anyway, but for the newcomers to the series, this is all happening too quickly. And what will happen after March, I wonder, when they’ve got nothing left to give to the fans?

You mean America and sorry to break it to you but America isn’t the center of the world. XIII – XIII-3 LR did real well in Japan, quit crying and grow up Phag (perfect name for you, btw.)

  • Chris

@Sam Last I checked this is an American website for Final Fantasy related news. And no one cares about Lightning garbage. Don’t be surprised when LR tanks in the US.

  • @Chris So your logic is that they’re releasing XIV in February because they’re sure no one will care about what you call Lightning “garbage”… Then why did they even make it? Great logic you got there mate! Gonna go far with it! Just cause something is “garbage” to you, it means the whole world should hate it. Just FYI, LR sold over 250K in its first four days in Japan alone.
