Final Fantasy XIV FanFest @ Tokyo – Day 2

December 20th, 2014 by Tony Garsow

before

The Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Tokyo kicks continues today — part two of a two day event that will bring us new information about the game. Today, we’ll get more scoops on A Realm Rebon‘s upcoming Patch 2.5 in Letter from the Producer Live XIX, including more on the final tier of Crystal Tower, new dungeons, and Gold Saucer.

Developer panels will give us additional insight into the team making Final Fantasy XIV, and composer Masayoshi Soken will return with The Primals for a concert.

We’ll be covering all the major details in this post, or you can follow us on twitter @finalfantasynet for live updates. Stay tuned to Final Fantasy Network!

Letter from the Producer Live XIX
• Why’s Ragnarok a Warrior axe? Well, the Final Fantasy series has a lot of classic sword and they didn’t want to skip it because it’s typically a sword. Thus, its weapon type changed. Now future Final Fantasy titles have an excuse to use it as an axe.
• Patch 2.5 is titled Before the Fall. It will be split into two parts.
• The team shows a video of The World of Darkness — the final stage of the Crystal Tower.
The World of Darkness will drop materials to create crafted items, rather than weekly item lockout.
• No additional fees will be required to use the content in the Manderville Gold Saucer.
• The team shows off a video of the Manderville Gold Saucer. It’s huge — and a remix of Final Fantasy VII‘s Gold Saucer theme plays.
• You can see various minigames like Super Dunk and a Gilgamesh punching mini-game.
Chocobo Racing will have you level up your chocobo seperately for racing-related stats, feeding it stuff changes its stats.
Triple Triad returns! You can challenge NPCs or buy them (for gil) at Gold Saucer. You can challenge other players and the team is planning tournaments. You can obtain cards from battle content too!
The Keeper of the Lake dungeon is shown.
The Wanderer’s Palace (Hard) dungeon is shown.
Amdapor Keep (Hard) dungeon is shown.
• The team shows pictures and a video of DirectX 11 compared to the game now — it’s a considerable improvement to shadows, reflections, and the game’s floor textures.
• Composer and sound director Masayoshi Soken takes the stage to talk about developing music for the game.
