The End of Final Fantasy XIV 1.0

October 31st, 2012 by Tony Garsow

Today marks the end of Version 1.0 — the Final Fantasy XIV as we’ve come to know it since 2010. The final character data save has taken place, and while servers will be up until November 11th, no changes to your character will be ported over to A Realm Reborn’s launch early next year. It’s the end of an era.

Many Eorzeans, including yours truly, logged in today to prepare for the final save and take in the sights — as the world itself will greatly change from it’s current form. So, for those of you that had a chance to experience Final Fantasy XIV up until now, what are some of your memories from the game? Good or bad. What about A Realm Reborn are you most excited to see based on Version 1.0′s shortcomings? Leave us a comment below.

More than two years have come and gone since service for FFXIV commenced on September 30, 2010. With the final character save maintenance on November 1, 2012, a chapter in the realm of Eorzea has come to a close.

With all the changes that have come to pass, I realize that it must have been difficult for you, the players. It’s been a very turbulent two years for me as well, and the game has come to hold a very special place in my heart. Work to transfer data over to A Realm Reborn will soon commence. Rest assured that your character will be carried over to a new beginning, bearing all your cherished memories of friendships and adventure.

Thanks to your encouragement and support, the game has come a very long way. There are no words to express how grateful we are for your help in the game’s rebirth.Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida, FFXIV director/producer

Update: After today’s maintenance, it seems Eorzea’s weather has taken a turn…

I don’t mean to troll, but why give a tribute to an inferior, crappy version of a game that was rushed out and panned by everybody? I mean, that’s the whole reason for this realm reborn redo thing! So good riddance I say.

    @ff789n10
Most, if not all of us agree with you and are still eager to move on to Version 2.0, but we’ve spent two years with 1.0. While it was less than ideal, we still want to remember what we liked about it as well as our experiences. So that’s probably why you see people making tributes.

  5. Dantares says:

For people who played the game since the beginning, it means a lot. Not just the end of the 7th Umbral Era storyline, but the end of something we’ve been part for 2 years. Everyone is excited for A Realm Reborn, but as a proud Eorzean, I want to defend the realm to the very end.

A memory that I’ve remember is lisenting to the music in limisa while I’ve wait for my friend’s to log in and go in to a pt at Tree peak. level 35 grinding but was fun cause mosto f the times we die lol just running away from mobs that are higher level and making it alive was fun. anyways really gonna miss everyone in my server and the version of this game.it’s where it all begain.I never forget this version. cant believe FFXIV is staring all over again but I’ve always Will Remember Version 1.0 Music, quest, story, characters, friends, “the experince”

looking forward to ARR and hope everyone had fun in Ver.1.0

  7. gmoyajp says:

Very well said Dantares! Just cause the game wasen’t what everone expect dosent mean we didnt enjoy it.I’ve been part of FFXIV since beta and untel this day. I’ve feeling sad that this version that we been part of for about 3 years is now gone but look forward to the New.

  8. AgitoXIII says:

Ima go with the other post and say, the hell with 1.0 Bring on ARR with actual stuff to do!

My best memory is basically just staring at Miqo’tes XD

  9. ff789n10 says:

Well, great that you guys enjoyed it, I personally can’t wait to jump in for the first time with the brand new version on PS3, it will be my first MMO.

  10. Isa says:

I wouldn’t say that I’ve got good memories of FFXIV, mainly because I’ve never played it. Reason? I have such a crappy PC I doubt that it’d been able to handle FFXIV’s graphics.

Personally, I wished that they released the PS3 version of 1.0 along with the PC version, maybe I would have come to love it as much as most of you Eorzean veterans. :)

I’m saddened that 1.0 has come and gone, even more so since I didn’t get the chance to experience it, but I’m hopeful that when 2.0 comes out, I’ll enjoy it as much as everyone that did.
