FFXIV: A Realm Reborn alpha begins Oct. 29

October 26th, 2012 by Tony Garsow

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn director Naoki Yoshida addressed fans in his newest Letter from the Producer today, sharing that the alpha phase will begin again on October 29th. This phase will take place for Japanese players first, but players from other regions should expect to be invited in this round.

Sharing images from the previous alpha tests, Yoshi-P highlighted some of the tests they were doing — namely to stress test the server, but also to show that the draw distance for characters had been greatly improved. Even with many characters on the screen, the new graphic engine was able to draw them much more efficiently than the previous one. You can see player coalescing around a dungeon entrance and piling on a few roaming bosses to illustrate.

For those of you who’ve filled out the alpha test application form (located here), keep an eye on your email over the next week! If you’re not invited in the first wave, don’t despair! The pool of test subjects will increase during the alpha test period’s duration.
