Two new FFXIV jobs revealed (by mistake?)

August 17th, 2012 by Tony Garsow

The official website for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn updated today with two new jobs for a short period of time before the information was taken down. It revealed two new jobs for the game, specically a Disciple of Magic job and a new class you can “spec” into after completing level and quest requirements: Arcanist and Summoner. Here are the official descriptions:

“Accompanied by a familiar in battle, adepts in the art of arcanum derive their might from symbols of power born of geometric techniques hailing from across the southern seas. Held within special grimoires, these symbols lend shape to the Arcanist’s aether, thereby allowing him to produce myriad powerful spells.

Using magicked gemstones upon which the selfsame symbols are graven, Arcanists are able to summon forth the ephemeral being Carbuncle to carry out their bidding.”

“The beast tribes of Eorzea worship and summon forth beings known as Primals, among which are Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan. Yet what is a god to one man is a demon to another, for the city-states of Eorzea see these beings as a threat to their collective survival.

In times immemorial, there lived mages who had not only the power to summon Primals, but also the means to transmute the Primals’ essences, thus binding them to their will. Known simply as Summoners, these men and women and their arcane art have been all but lost to the ages.”

And there you have it! Looks like a forthcoming announcement about new jobs for Eorzeans will come at some point in the future! So what do you think about the new Arcanist and Summoner job, and what are you expecting to see from it? Are there any other jobs you really want to see incorporated into Final Fantasy XIV? Sound off in the comments!

  • Crystallis

Used to play XI a lot back in the days, and I was really in love with the summoner job. Haven’t tried XIV yet, but I will most certainly pick it up as soon as it relaunches now 😀

  • gmoyajp

I been waiting to hear news on the summoner class!! i hope it’s alot better then the way the system work on XI.

    need to level alch

  • dreams

wow, summons are back. I hope the this time critics like it better.

  • LordGfet

    Damn, dragon or summoner?D=

  • Tsukiru

Seems to me as if Arcanist is the class, and Summoner is the job it can become at Lv.30 (with Conjurer sub, I’m sure). Musketeer is also in the game for the most part, so I’m interested in seeing whether that’ll be implemented with a job (Corsair? Pirate?).

I’m personally hoping for Ninja and Thief jobs. Samurai would be nice as well.

  • Tony Garsow

    Yes, that’s correct.

  • LordGfet

    That’s wonderful =o.

  • Cody

I remember reading Yoshi mentioning Arcanist possibly branching into geomancer, but Summoner works all the same too. If you played XIV you will know that the encounters you have with arcanists usually end up with you fighting his/her familer(pet). So, I guess in the end it makes better since for the Arcanist to become a SMN, since it already has that similar aspect.

I’m super excited to see what the gear looks like though! =D
