E3 Live Letter Recap #1: Brutal Ninja Wedding

June 10th, 2014 by Tony Garsow

Today’s Letter from the Producer Live @ E3 stream was one to behold for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn fans anticipating surprises for upcoming content. While tomorrow’s stream will primarily be about Patch 2.3: Defenders of Eorzea, director Yoshida and company saw fit to tease content that may be coming a bit later down the line.

The biggest reveal is the introduction of the Rogue class and Ninja job. Seen in the trailer above, these agile fighters will be a new damage dealing class that you’ll be able to train in come Patch 2.4. Dual-wielding daggers, Rogues will use poisons against their foes with nimble speed. The Ninja job class, closely resembling Shadow from Final Fantasy VI, will use its own damage dealing skills while making use of the Rogue’s speed. Both Rogue and Ninja will benefit from a faster run speed and will take less damage from falls.

Next came the subject of player marriage via the Sanctum of the Twelve coming in Patch 2.4 — previously hinted in various Live Letters. When it came to the subject of same-sex relationships, Yoshida had this to say to fans across the globe:

“Players within Eorzea will be able to pledge their eternal love and or friendship in a ceremony of eternal bonding, and this will be open to people regardless of race, creed, and gender. Two players, if they want to be together in Eorzea, they can through this eternal bonding ceremony. We discussed it and we realized — within Eorzea, why should there be restrictions on who pledges their love or friendship to each other? So we decided to go this way.”

Another big reveal is the addition of Brutal Mode for the Binding Coil of Bahamut. When the team designed the eight-man endgame content originally, they scaled down the difficulty from its original specifications for the challenges we underwent before Patch 2.2’s Echo buff. This prototype difficulty was so hard that none of the staff had been able to beat it. Starting with Patch 2.3, Brutal Mode will be introduced for the public. You’ll need to clear a Turn normally to be able to unlock its Brutal Mode and Second Coil lockout restrictions will still apply and be in effect.

You’ll be able to earn Titles by clearing Brutal Mode, which can be displayed publically under your name for bragging rights. In the future the team would consider adding loot for Brutal Mode.

Other interesting reveals included a peek at the Carteneau Plains, a new zone which will appear as a Frontline PvP battleground in Patch 2.3, a special workshop located in Free Company house basements where we’ll begin to start building airships, and a hint that Fan Festival tickets will go on sale soon! More details on Defenders of Eorzea will air live on Letter from the Producer XV tomorrow on Square Enix Presents (10:00AM PST).

Ninja finally revealed after all the teasing! Lol.
Pretty excited to see how -brutal- Brutal Mode is — looking forward to going back in to Turn 2 to do it the -RIGHT- way and none of this enrage mode nonsense. 😉
