Final Fantasy Being Considered for Wii U

June 10th, 2011 by Sharjeel Hanif

This is mostly unsurprising, but exciting nonetheless. It looks like Square Enix is one of the host of developers taking Nintendo’s Wii U very seriously.

Yoshinori Kitase, head producer of Square Enix Product Development Division One (responsible for Final Fantasy XIII, and XIII-2), stated the following, “After seeing Wii U revealed at Nintendo’s conference, we are now considering the possibilities of bringing the Final Fantasy series to the format.”

Personally, I think the Wii U could be put to great use when it comes to the Final Fantasy series. The controller could be used to display the battle menus, clearing up space on our television sets to enjoy the action without the clutter of menu elements.

I’ve never felt menu elements to be clutter, but more like an enhancement. Still it would allow for a bit more immersion into the battle itself, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

It would feel kind of weird having to look down at the controller every time I want to check the menus. Especially in the middle of a battle.

  • lalik

^I agreed. I don’t really mind the battle menu being on the screen, especially during a really tough fight, you won’t have time to be going back and fourth on both screens.

It’s obvious he’s just hinting at a future Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game for Wii U. The FFCC series is Nintendo exclusive, after all.

  • lalik

Oh now that you mention that, yeah one like the crystal chronicles for gamecube would work.

I guess they’re trying to add the double screen feature from the DS into the Wii? Ideas, anyone?

  • SlappyTheHorse

Considering that it was the producer behind XIII, I’m not getting my hopes up about anything except change. Not that I disliked XIII, it was just a change; a break from the usual, if you will. Personally, I kind of like the automatic healing from the battles. It added a bit of extra action to the fights. The big question is, however, ‘Exactly what changes does Mr. Kitase have in mind?’.

Must be talking about the Crystal Chronicles series and NOT the main numeral series.
