Team XIII-2 on Paradigm Tune & Blood Damage

September 22nd, 2011 by Tony Garsow

This week’s Famitsu had an interview with Final Fantasy XIII-2 director Motomu Toriyama and battle director Yusuke Matsui. They explained two new systems that players will see in the game’s battle system: Paradigm Tune and Blood Damage.

Paradigm Tune: This feature will allow players to change the AI of their AI-controlled party members. This is displayed by the orb in the lower left portion of the game’s HUD. You can use this feature to have characters focus on one or multiple targets, and there will be situations where each strategy is useful.

Blood Damage: A new type of damage dealt to your party, Blood Damage will directly decrease your maximum HP in battle. You will need to defeat enemies quickly to avoid Blood Damage. This feature is still being tweaked for different difficulty modes for the game.

Wow blood damage sounds like a bitch, but I do like the idea of paradigm tuning. So who all is gonna play this on hard!?

So they came up with a new name for Gambits? Congratulations, Square?

I’ll probably start this game out in normal and then try hard later. I just hope that they give more money then what they’ve shown in those demos. Because money in the original ffxiii was a pain.

Paradigm Tune sounds like Gambits… Not sure I like it.

Hopefully ai adjustments will be like they are in the Tales game where they are already given to you rather than javing to go out & find them, that was a pain.

I thought that dropping the ‘party leader dying + game over’ might’ve made the game too easy. Glad to see this new ‘blood damage’ system will be implemented as a counter-balance. Digging what I’m seeing. My dad disliked XIII, but he seemed interested in what he’s seen about XIII-2.

    Nothing to report.
Sounds interesting…someone picked up early on what the orb was in the battle menu. Sounds good. Definately going to play it on hard.

I think Square Enix should re-release FF13 with new added gameplay elements from FF13-2 like no crystarium restriction, change party leader in battle, paradigm tune, mini-game, chocobo racing, in Nautilus… what do you think ? Level-5 did something similar with White knight Chronicles, altho them they made it fit on the same blu-ray disc as WKC2. I know it wouldnt be possible with FF13.

  • Von

Not necessarrily, it might work since their are less FMV’s in XIII-2, not to mention the Blu-ray discs can hold a rather large amount of data. Though itll probably mean 1 more disc for the Xbox :p
