Square Enix has released a batch of new information and screens to showcase Final Fantasy XII‘s overall improvements in the remaster. In addition to the graphical and sound enhancements done to adapt to current gen hardware, its game design has been overall reworked to allow a more comfortable playing experience by shortening loading time and adding auto save function.

Three new features will be added to Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age‘s performance:

  1. Enhancement of image expression – Not only graphics will be high resolution but also the level of texture and shadows
  2. Improve gameplay – An overall improvement to its RPG elements
  3. Improvement of sound expression – Re-recording all BGM with live performance and enhancing the overall sound quality

Improvement in Visual

Final Fantasy XII‘s visual prowess during its time has always been most impressive, and with this remaster its visual qualities are polished further with improved resolution and high texture of models (skin, hair, clothing, metal, etc.). The overall character expression is strengthened which brings more life to Akihiko Yoshida’s character designs. Lighting and the levels of blur have also been enhanced accordingly, which adds more to the world’s sense of depth.

Improvement in Gameplay: Zodiac Job System

With the Zodiac Job System you can develop and take on two jobs with each character as you desire. Weapons can be equipped for each job and abilities such as magic and skills can be used differently, with each job having their own special combinations and advantages. Differences in battle performance and strategy will depend on the player’s choices.

You can take advantage of XII‘s famous Gambit system with the new features of the Zodiac Job system and exploit new strategies that was impossible in the original game. You can improve the pacing of battles as you wish and coupled with the improvement of the visual experience you’ll witness impressive and dynamic looking battles.

Exploration will be more comfortable with the additional features of reduced loading time and auto save function. Once you die in battle for instance, you can immediately retry. High speed mode has also been added which is helpful if you want to move quickly between locations and grind in the process. To anyone who hasn’t played XII, this may seem a bit odd, but battle outcomes are mostly determined by the preparations you have made in assigning jobs and skills to different characters and arranging your tactics in the Gambit system.

You can now access the map directly in real time by pressing L3 making things more convenient.

Japanese and English voiceovers will be both available in-game and just like choosing between the versions of BGM you can switch anytime from the settings. The soundtrack has 8 new songs which can be heard in battles and on the field.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is due for release on July 13th 2017.
