Square Enix filed for a new trademark today under the name “Seekers of Adoulin”. With VanaFest just around the corner (tomorrow, in fact) it’s quite likely that a new expansion for Final Fantasy XI will be announced. Adoulin, a location in Vana’diel, is said to lie to the west of the Middle Lands continents.
“I go by the name Achtelle. I hail from Adoulin Isle. Word has reached there that the dragoons and their wyverns have long since disappeared from these eastern lands. Tell me, is it true?” — Achtelle, FFXI NPC
This will be the fifth major expansion to Final Fantasy XI in it’s ten year history. Preceding it: Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, Wings of the Goddess, and several smaller expansions.

I really like the fact that they’re keeping XI alive. I don’t play it my self, but (weirdly) I enjoy seeing videos of other people playing it. If I could be bothered with the grinding, I’d probably give it a go. I though post-XIV that they’d be winding down XI. Glad to see I was wrong.
There’s no real “grinding” nowadays, you can easily get to 99 in a week or so (not counting doing LB quests).
I hope that this site is right and this is truly a new expansion for XI. I’ve been gone over a year now and I come back for a new expansion I think.
This is very exciting if it’s true! I very much enjoyed the last expansion, Wings of the Goddess, and it would be nice to have actual missions and such to complete again. Grinding in Abyssea all day can get boring I think
I’m pretty sure it’s legit. Someone recently data mined a whole slew of new areas that haven’t been completed yet. One of which includes a brand new city. Something of that scale usually doesn’t indicate something as small as an add-on scenario.
My hopes is that some new jobs are released. I really think there is more room for a couple of new jobs.
