Final Fantasy X HD Adds 30 Minute Episode

July 3rd, 2013 by Tony Garsow

Final Fantasy X scenario writer Kazushige Nojima and the team behind Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD have added a thirty-minute scene past the staff credits. This scene is entirely new and voiced by the original cast, who were brought in to record. The scene has been kept something of a secret so far, with Yoshinori Kitase (Final Fantasy X director/scenarist), “looking forward to players discovering it”.

Previously, an epsiode was added between Final Fantasy X and X-2 in Final Fantasy X International, which only released in Japan and Europe. This episode, named “Eternal Calm”, follows Yuna as she comes to understand the journey she’ll make in the sequel. It’s unknown if this new 30-minute scene is an extension of this, or an entirely new scenario.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD will release on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita (sold separately). An official release date is to be announced at a later time.

  • The Eternal Calm was released in North America, too in the issue of OPM that came with the X-2 demo haha

Lol, I have that actually — but I’d very much like it with the game. ;p

Oh man, this is so great! They’re actually giving us something new to look forward to, after all these years! I hope it’s got more to do with the ending of X than it does with X-2 tbh, since that’s the game I (and most gamers I think) were most attached to. And I really want the Eternal Calm clip in the game as well. Here’s to hoping for a new trailer this week!

  • Terrorofzanarkand

    Oh yeeah! 😀
Though still hoping for EC clip to be added as well.

  • AnimaMagna

This is so tantalizing. Is it extended Eternal Calm, a movie-version of Last Mission, or something to come after all of them, offering full closure to the story of Tidus and Yuna.

  • Bekas

I’d like something that would talk of how life continued after Tidus returned at the end of X-2~
Closure for Tidus and Yuna’s story, tidbits on Lulu and Wakka and Rikku ;w; Give it to meeee~

  • Laura

Oh wow! I REALLY hope it is post FfX-2, with a full wrap up of Tidus and Yuna’s relationship! I would love to see something adorable like that!

  • Odine

    Like it!
But i’m afraid, as you have called the “eternal calm” an episode, that the new 30min hidden FFX episode will be only a video too. I expect to find out something playable, even with that shortness, and not only watchable.

In fact, I always thought the transition from FFX to FFX-2 was bad narrated (even after watching the “eternal calm” episode) and required more explanation, I hope this episode will achieve that goal too.

    Good Job Square Enix!

  • Odine

    edit:
Well, I thought (and said) the new episode will be for FFX and we still don’t have a confirmation of that. Don’t take that into consideration in my comment above.

I hope it not movie version of last mission, but likely it could be case, if they don’t add last mission, I hope last mission is dlc or included into game, this new 30 minutes episode should be something new and cool and instant buy for me.
