Eternal Calm + Last Mission with FFX/X-2 HD?

August 6th, 2013 by Tony Garsow

Yuna

For fans anticipating the upcoming HD remaster of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, there’s been a lingering question(s) about some of the additional content that came with the International releases a decade ago: “what about Last Mission and Eternal Calm?” Well, according to a few images that have been circulating around the web recently, it seems that these will indeed be included.

Eternal Calm is a special cutscene that released with Final Fantasy X International that bridged the two games’ stories together. It takes place after the events of Final Fantasy X and is centered around Yuna as she returns to her “normal” life in Besaid. Last Mission, an extra side-game included with Final Fantasy X-2, features Yuna, Rikku, and Paine’s ascent through the Yadonoki (Ephemeral) Tower long after the game’s events have concluded. The gameplay featured is separate from the main title, and plays something like a Final Fantasy X-2-themed roguelike. For more about the additional content released in the International versions of these games, click here to read on.

In Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, Square Enix has rounded up the game’s original voice actors to compose an additional 30-minute audio drama set after the events of the games. This is exclusive to the HD remaster version and is unlocked at the end of the game. This may account for its exclusion in the main title pictures supposedly leaked from the game. Additional pictures including shots of Final Fantasy X’s brand-new in-game menu and interface have also surfaced, albeit from a supposedly different source. Earlier this year, we reported on retailer Best Buy Canada including these features in the product description, though they were quickly edited.

One important bit to consider is that the rapidly approaching Gamescom in Germany and PAX Prime in Seattle may be ideal venues at which Square Enix may choose to release crucial details, such as the confirmation of this extra content and an official release date for all regions.

Releasing this year for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita (sold separately), Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD will also feature trophy support for both games and over sixty remastered songs in Final Fantasy X HD.

What are you most looking forward to in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD and are there any changes and inclusions of content that you’re personally excited to experience? Will you be purchasing the game on PlayStation 3 or picking up each title on PlayStation Vita? Leave your thoughts in a comment below!

    Well, this pretty much seals it! Finally all the fanboys can hopefully stop complaining now. Totally picking this up for the PS3, might even pre-order it next month if it’s still available! I wanna hear the updated soundtracks and see what the extra content is all about. SO much nostalgia with this one!!

    Hi-de-hi! I hope it’s been given English voice-overs. I’ve seen a subtitled version, but I would so love to hear the English actors going through Last Mission and reaching that incredible conclusion.

    I’m totally cool if it’s JPN dubs/ENG subs. Tidus’s might’ve been one of the most Japanese-looking FF leads, but damn does he sound like a nasally, annoying white kid. In fact, if there’s an option to change the audio, that’d be fantastic.
    As far as Eternal Calm goes, I’ve never seen it, but it hardly sounds necessary. I beat both games and didn’t have any trouble following the (rather linear) plots. Is it more explanatory than FFIV’s Interlude?

    Seems like the PSVita version is a digital download. There is no gamecard in the statusbar.

    The new menu for X looks really nice and clean but I kinda miss the bright colors ;w;

  • @yukikenzo
    How would that work? SE releasing PSN content that is accessible to the PSV but not the PS3?

    So beautiful!
    Finally I will be able to play Last Mission!!! I am so excited!! 😀

    i think an opportunity was missed to release for the 360, although ps probably has exclusive rights or something
