Final Fantasy VI: Balance and Ruin Released

July 1st, 2013 by Taylor Brown

For as long as OverClocked ReMix has existed, there has been one album many have been waiting for. In the nearly fourteen years since the site’s inception, thirty-nine albums have been released; some were comprehensive covers of entire soundtracks, others were more themed affairs tackling boss themes or the age-old battle between heroes and villains.

But finally, the day has come where a legendary game with a widely loved soundtrack gets its due with an arrangement album. Coming to you today at literally no cost, Final Fantasy VI: Balance and Ruin remixes the entirety (sans “What?!”) of that game’s soundtrack in a six-hour five-disc aural experience.

Though there were some difficulties with the initial Kickstarter that began to raise money to get the album to be the best it could be, a second one was started after successful negotiations with Square Enix and raised over $150,000. And I have to say, it was money well-spent. This album is truly the best that it can be, and each track retains the original spirit of the source it remixes while also making them something new. There’s even an arrangement of several themes from the opera scene masterfully strung together in the style of Queen, thanks to Jake Kaufman. If you’re a fan of the original game, its soundtrack, Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy, retro games…

You know what? Just check it out, regardless of what you’re a fan of. You can snag it for free at here today!

  • Six hours? That’s incredible, if such is the right word. And Voices of the Lifestream looked big with it’s +3h… Quite the mammoth it seems, at the very least it raises curiosity as to what has been done with the more melodious tunes.
I would have likely missed this without this post. Thanks.
