Type-0 localization fate still undecided

June 13th, 2011 by Tony

While we typically expect Final Fantasy games to see domestic releases here abroad and several months after the Japanese release, it seems Square-Enix is till on the fence about announcing the game for the western world. When asked at this year’s E3 about when we can expect Type-0, producer Yoshinori Kitase replied that Square-Enix is still deciding on when to announce any decision about localization. The decision will depend on the market, and especially how the PSP fares in the coming year. He also added that Final Fantasy fans should be patient when expecting any forthcoming announcement involving the title.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is currently slated for Summer 2011 in Japan, but with summer just around the corner already, some have speculated that we will see a Japanese release in September when video game sales tend to pick up again. While this statement doesn’t exactly nix any plans for international release of the game, it may be of consideration that Square-Enix is even debating the possibility of not releasing this game overseas.

No! Why SE? After the 20 demo shown at the dissidia event, I started to look forward to this game than XIII-2 or Versus…Sigh…

No ! Come on ! I only bought my psp for Final Fantasy titles, and this one is like THE Final Fantasy for PSP !!! Dont do this to your fans… Crisis Core is an incredible action rpg, Dissidia Duodecim is THE BEST Fighter RPG ever made, dont take Type-0 away from us, we’ve been impatient about Versus, we thought we had that one to help us wait since XIII was not up to the franchise standards, liked it anyway, looking forward for XIII-2.

If you want to sale well in North America, you should advertise more, you only show Versus and Type-0 in Japan…. the best games that you made since Final Fantasy IX….

I like Eidos, but I couldnt care less about them if I dont get my japanese Final Fantasy titles translated !

The game features a 2 UMD release and a universe that is only “big” on the Japanese pop culture/market, the whole magic high school fantasy-themed world.
It is obvious to everyone, such market is rather scarce outside Japan…
However, I never actually conceived that they would debate the release beyond the native land, in fact, I was imagining if they were already cooking up the cast for the voice acting.
So, I am disappointed at SE being “afraid” of losses when they release FFIV in yet another format with the mantra of it being a gift for the fans…

Type-0 looks like a great game, besides Versus XIII nothing else in SE appears as interesting and entertaining.

Bad call SE, bad call on the hesitation and bad call on a silent consideration of not releasing this game worldwide.
    Bad call…

I’m going to be severely pissed if the Final Fantasy series starts ending up like the Tales Series. I don’t think this is any time to panic, as it’s nowhere near that bad, but I definitely don’t want that to ever happen.

  5. lalik says:

I’m really hyped about this game too. They just gotta bring it over. And yes the “Tales” series have let me down too many times.

  6. gmoyajp says:

SE can take there time to decide when to release it!

am import this title because worth it as a decade fan of the series!

  7. Blaster says:

gaah they better not put the localized version exclusively on the PSV

  8. youngsexynerd says:

i was thinking,,, square should realese the psp version in japan only, while upgrading it for the vita worldwide launching title

  9. Arca says:

I really hope this game sees a worldwide release!! but I hope it won’t be a PSV exclusive either… if anything, they could AT LEAST make it for PSV AND PSP, if they really did care about their fans and loyal customers! Someone should start a petition or something to convince SE to localize Type-0!! I’ve been looking forward to this game ever since it was first unveiled…

  10. [...] While the PlayStation Portable remains the most popular gaming device in Japan, its situation in the West is much less pronounced, with dwindling hardware and software sales. Square Enix has commented on this in relation to Final Fantasy Type-0′s localization in English, stating that fans will have to be patient, and that the company might have to resort to different methods in bringing the title overseas. (More on that here). [...]
