Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will at long last be coming overseas along with the mobile title Final Fantasy Agito based in the same world. Now that the announcement is official, a voice actor that has contributed his talents to the localization has revealed himself! Matthew Mercer, known for his roles in Fire Emblem: Awakening as Chrom and Leon Kennedy in the Resident Evil series, will be voicing Trey — a bow-wielding member of Class Zero in the Suzaku Akademeia in Rubrum.

Update:

Orion Acaba has confirmed that he will be voicing Nine, a spear-wielding member of Class Zero!

“I am so proud, happy and thrilled to finally and officially announce that I will be playing the character “Nine” in the new Final Fantasy Type-0 game!!!! I have owned, played, and beat all of the previous Final Fantasy games and it is a true honor and privilege for me to now be a part of this wonderful story. I remember my last day recording for Nine close to two years ago, and as I drove home I welled up with tears of pure elation and joy. There have been a few times in my life where that has happened, and as I watched the giant trailer at E3 with Agito running, I stood there, watched and I felt that joy once again. More to come!”

Update #2:

Christina Vee has confirmed that she will be voicing Cinque, a mace-wielding member of Class Zero!

With both titles announced, only time will tell until the other Class Zero English voice cast alum are revealed! Who are you expecting to voice each character? Leave us a comment below!

Final Fantasy Type-0 is currently announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Final Fantasy Agito is currently announced for iOS/Android smartphone platforms.

Hold the phone there!!! WILL be voicing?! I thought the voice-overs and translations were all done back when the game was originally supposed to be released, in 2012! Are you now telling me that they haven’t done those?

  • Tony Garsow

They’re done. They’ve been done for a while actually.

I am seriously hoping that Steve Burton will voice Kurasame. But who will voice Arecia? Maybe… Oh no, I won’t speculate there. I want to be surprised, for better or worse.

Still super happy about this announcement! And wow, this may come out sooner than I thought! Guess those reports about a translated script being done years ago were true. Can’t wait to see who the other characters will be voiced by! Matt Mercer is pretty good in his roles-can’t wait to hear more of his work. Not too familiar with the others, though.

I also remember some actors talking about they had been contacted to work on an English release around the same time the script rumors were going around…I wonder if we’ll see them reappear?

Yeah, sorry. I jumped the gun there…

It’ll be interesting to see who voices Ace and Machina!

  • AnimaMagna

I really want to know who voices Rem and Cid. And yes, from what I’ve gathered, the voice recording for the English dub was finished in 2011, but then they put the game on hold for reasons you can find elsewhere.

Wow, ok I see what you did there Square. This was your trump card for E3 this year.

Well bear in mind that the recording these guys are referring to would most likely have been for the original PSP Western release. Any work on the HD ports for newer consoles wouldn’t have been underway then, and may only have recently begun. Sorry to put a damper on that.

I’m not too familiar with videogame voice actors in general, but I do know that Cristina Vee is one of those VAs that’s seemingly in pretty much every JRPG. Always a familiar name in gaming credits.

Yeah, I knew that from Tabata’s previews interviews, I just got a little ahead of myself thinking they were actually going out hiring them right now. But then I read Acaba’s thank you note and that put me at ease… Rem is also another of the characters I’m interested to see who voices. For the roles of Ace, Machina and Rem and Cid they’ll need (or have needed) a bit more experienced voice actors since these are sort of the main characters. But I love the fact that Type-0 has such a huge cast when compared to XIII or even XV! In fact, as much as I push my mind, I don’t recall any Final Fantasy game having this many characters, both main and support!

You’re right there. I did a little calculation, and counting everyone who has a speaking part or important role, this game has the largest cast of any Final Fantasy game outside the MMOs. And [spoilers], the majority are dead by the end.

  • Finestfantasy

Oh yeah, I know! Sorry, didn’t really elaborate on my train of thought there. IIRC, those rumors came out after Type 0 released in Japan, when it wouldn’t have been a horrible time to still release it on PSP (at least to me). Since that was the only platform it came out on, it would’ve had to have been the recordings for the original PSP version. I’m not too keen on video game development, but wouldn’t Square still be able to use the recording from then on this remaster? Or does it have to be totally redone? I was under the impression that sound can (and will be) remastered to the PS4 from the (I assume) lower-quality PSP one.

I may have played something with these other actors and I’m just not recalling. I usually only remember main characters voices from stuff I’ve played repeatedly,or recently haha :)
EDIT: Yup, I should have recognized her- she was in K-on! And I see a few games I’ve played with her in them, as well. Look forward to hearing her here!

Oh yeah, they can, and presumably will, use the same voice recordings in the HD version. I just meant that the date of the voice recordings doesn’t really have any bearing on how far along the HD version is. They could record voices in 1998 and then not make the game until 2020, for example. I do hope it’s pretty soon, though. My current plan is to get a PS4 by this Christmas and this would make it all the more tempting.

Ohhhh dudeeee!!!!! Why did you have to go and do that for??? I’ve tried my best all these years to not learn anything about Type-0′s plot and now you come in and ruin it for me at the worst time imaginable?! Gee whiz….

  • AnimaMagna

Very sorry. I’m one of a rare breed that loves spoilers. I won’t do it again on this site, I promise. :)
