Final Fantasy Type-0 HD + Agito Announced

June 10th, 2014 by Tony Garsow

Square Enix has announced the localization of Final Fantasy Type-0 as Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (PS4, Xbox One) and mobile game Final Fantasy Agito (iOS, Android). Sony has also posted in the latest US blog that a PS Vita version will also be coming.

Update: Sony’s US PlayStation Blog has amended its original announcement to say that Type-0 HD is coming to PS4, not PlayStation Vita.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is being upgraded with HD assets as seen in the final moments of the trailer below behind director Hajime Tabata’s message to fans.

Final Fantasy Agito is set in Orience, the same world as Final Fantasy Type-0 and will be free to play with in-app purchases.

BANG-CLUNK-CRASH-CLUNK-SMACK! That was my head popping off, hitting the floor, going through the ground and coming out in Japan to kiss whoever spearheaded this. Seriously, have we entered Gaming Nirvana?

Sony has retracted their statement regarding a Vita release. “Update: An earlier headline for this post stated that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is coming to PS Vita, which was incorrect. Type-0 is coming to PS4 in North America and Europe.”

“We Have Arrived” sounds at full blast, with Class Zero standing ready to fight for their country on our HD screens!

  • Ok, now I know that we finally got what we wanted but is it bad that I’m still very annoyed by Square Enix? Yes, bringing Type-0 to next-gen consoles is even better than simply bringing it to the Vita because they’ll be able to massively upscale the world of Orience. But the way they’re going about it is still so horribly wrong. All they did was post a tiny little message saying “Ok, you want it so bad, you’re getting it.” Why are they so tight about information? Would a tiny trailer or release window have killed them? I mean, XV and KH III showed up last year and we were all happy and excited like we are now, then what happened? I bet Type-0 HD remains a dream till mid-2015, giving them the opportunity to push XV back EVEN FURTHER!! And I’m also willing to wager that we don’t hear anything about it again for a long, long time…

I agree, one right with Type-0 does not erase the many wrongs they have committed. Type-0 was released in 2011 for goodness sake and we prob won’t see this till 2015 like you said. With XV and KH3 all they had to do was show us new footage, even something as simple as a screenshot of Stella or Sora! But to not release any information at all at E3 altogether is just infuriating…

Complain all you want FINAL FANTASY TYPE-O IS LOCALIZED

  • Bryan Wolstromer

Not a big deal… if you have a PSP you can play a fan translated version, so good! Square Enix should have released this ages ago…

  • koyokoyo

Seriously? People are mad that this isn’t on the Vita? I am quite glad it isn’t. I don’t understand why people would rather play an RPG on a handheld as opposed to a home console.

  • ಠ_ಠ

Type-0 is a game already made and would be under the production of a team completely separate from XV’s development, much like when X/X-2 HD was made, so there should be no interference.

There’s also a whole culture of corporate secrecy in Japan, it’s not just an issue around SE. Sony (The Last Guardian, for example) and Nintendo are pretty mum about things as well, though perhaps not to the point where they’ve teased a game in development for 8 years now? In all fairness, when SE decided to take Versus XIII to next-gen consoles, there were non-disclosures from Sony and Microsoft that prevented SE from even *talking* about it until both new consoles were announced.

It’s a perfect storm of bs, really. Fingers crossed that we can expect to hear more about XV/KH3 at the Tokyo Game Show later this year. Type-0’s western release doesn’t make things better, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction and I’m very grateful for the news.
