Final Fantasy Agito – Ouka Trailer

April 21st, 2014 by Tony Garsow

Final Fantasy Agito is a smartphone game set in the world of Orience, once home to Final Fantasy Type-0 which released in Japan back in 2011 for the PlayStation Portable. Believe it or not, Final Fantasy Agito XIII was originally announced for mobile phones during a Fabula Nova Crystallis presentation nearly eight years ago at E3. It seems things have come full circle with Final Fantasy Agito‘s forthcoming release in Japan this year.

In the few years since Final Fantasy Type-0‘s release, Square Enix has not released the game overseas despite support from fans worldwide. Hopes shifted to the PlayStation Vita and Sony’s campaign to help localize more niche role-playing games from Japan, but mum’s still the word on this missing fragment of the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation.

Pre-registration for Final Fantasy Agito begins today, where fans will be able to unlock special outfits “Street Clothes” seen here. The game is currently announced for iOS and Android platforms with release coming up later this spring.

I don´t give a single euro for this as long as SE keeps refusing to give us type-0.

  • I cannot for the life of me understand why Square Enix would refuse to release a title such as Type-0 to the west… I bet it would outsell LR in a week!

  • AnimaMagna

They couldn’t before with guaranteed sales because the PSP market in the west was flagging, and they felt it was too much of a gamble. And yes, it would sell really well. Still, Tabata is still wanting to bring it west either as a PS Vita title and/or on the PlayStation Network. And Agito is definitely being localized in preperation for a western release, as confirmed by the man himself at TGS. I haven’t lost hope just yet.

  • But it’s been 2 years!!! We’re talking about a cash-cow here, it’s not some measly sequel. Tabata says he is finding resistance from the higher-ups at Square Enix for the internationalization of Type-0! That’s what I find outrageous. And so what if they were to release it on the PSP back then? Did Crisis Core not sell well enough for them? Even though I seriously believe that this will be announced along with Agito as a package at E3, I still think they’ve spent way too much time over it.

  • AnimaMagna

Yeah. you’re right. They’ve waited far too long. It’s not improved their reputation once bit. To be honest, even though I have hope, I can’t fathom when they would announce it. E3 is a strong possibility, but… And I thought Tabata was getting positive rather than negatives in terms of bringing Type-0 west. That there was resistance is news to me.

  • The thing is, they won’t OFFICIALLY come out and say anything about this. Neither that the localization won’t happen, nor that it will. That’s the most annoying part of it all. They just like to leave it hanging in the balance, and all of us along with it. If it isn’t announced at this year’s E3 (where they’ve got Agito coming out and, other than XV, absolutely nothing on the FF front), then I guess it more than likely isn’t coming out to the west… ever! Such a shame!

Will they launch it for tablets too? The text says that this “is a smartphone game” at the start, and at the end it says “announced for iOS and Android platforms”.
So this will work on my Android tablet?

  • AnimaMagna

It’s for iOS and Android, so yeah I guess. Depends on the model you have, I think. Like I needed my current Windows 8 to play Tomb Raider Underworld about five years after I originally bought it.

  • AnimaMagna

Whoops, sorry. I meant Windows 7. Stupid typo.

  • kara

so where can I register for the game? is it that link completely in japanese?
