Theatrhythym: Final Fantasy takes Dissidia to 3DS

July 6th, 2011 by Tony Garsow

As revealed in this week’s issue of Jump, a Dissidia-themed rythym game will be headed to the Nintendo 3DS. Named: Theatrhythym: Final Fantasy, it looks like this is the party-based Dissidia-type game that we’ve heard hints of a few times earlier when the Dissidia staff had discussed where to go next. This definitely is a new genre altogether. Seen in the scan above, chibified Kingdom Hearts Mobile avatar-style characters can be seen doing battle with a behemoth. We had previously heard the staff behind Dissidia and Duodecim that the next iteration of the games they were working on may take a new form altogether.

The game is said to be a rythym action game, and will feature characters and music from the Final Fantasy series. Characters will battle to retain the light of the crystal, and there will be an overarcing plot as with the Dissidia games. No launch date is currently planned.

You know, when I was praying to the Squeenix gods for a Dissidia RPG, but this isn’t QUITE what I had in mind, but we’ll see.

And yeah, if they want me to buy this, I’m expecting a 3DSWare release, or else it better be a HUGE title.

  • Blaster

the thought of it being a Dissidia game makes me laugh even harder.

  • Steven

Well I never thought Square Enix would release something related to FF that I would find LAME.

Twice in the same week… this… and the ff7 costumes for Little Big Planet 2…. sigh

Why all this kid stuff, when their fanbase is mostly 20+, FF started in 1987, the year I’m born, which makes it 24 years old.

  • lalik

lol I guess this is a good way to introduce it to the little ones. And there are many young teens out there would probably buy this with their new DS. You never know what age to target, people get introduce to FF everyday.

    yeaaahh…. no.

this ain’t gonna fly with me -__-

    >.< I got so excited when I read the title… Then I watched the picture… Why SE, why?!

  • The_Badass

    What the hell is this?

    Epic fail.

  • AntagonistGB

Looks better than XIII-2. Looks simple, charming, and cute. Ergo, I support this. :)

  • AntagonistGB

    Though I will admit… rhythm games… ehh…

  • Aluminah

Competition for the children-targeted games like Mario, anyone?

  • Eriyu

Am… am I the only one who’s genuinely excited for this…?

  • Cheaken

    @Eriyu No, I’m excited too.

  • AntagonistGB

I love how the fanboys are willing to get excited over the genuinely awful looking XIII-2, but won’t give Square a chance to try something new.

yeah to steven i started playing at 8 years during the NES era and i cant believe how Lame FF has gotten since XII for me actually.

well sakaguchi no longer anyways and FFXI online was very great i been with XI since beta and still playing and FFXII did well in my book maybe cause of FFXI but anyways XIII wasent all that great but not bad. i hope XIII-2 will be alot better and FFXIV wasent that bad just lack of content so i hope that get fix as time gose by and so far FF type 0 and verusus seem to be the only 2 worthy majore titles of this era!

this game is like FF meets papa the ra pa. disapointed on SE for sure.

  • gmoyajp

i mean after XII my mistake.

  • SlappyTheHorse

So, this is why we got to spend hard-earned PP on exceptionally lame Avatar Player Icons. Perhaps Square Enix’s new-found talent at making gradually worsening games is the world telling me to game less and read more. A sad day indeed when Asian gamer-nerds have to revert to regular old book nerd, but you know what; surprising people with alarming facts and statistics is more fun than bragging about XBOX achievements ANY day.

As long as the game has all the villains chibi-fied and playable as well, I’m down. Gotta hurry up and beat Ocarina of Time and KH 358days/2, because I’ll probably get addicted to this.

The first Dissidia was the reason I bought a PSP [no… technically, it was Warrior of Light that made me want to buy Dissidia, which required a PSP]. I wasn’t all over Dissidia 012 initially with no Vincent on the horizon, but along came Kain and dlc of Helmetless Warrior, and now I still haven’t gotten around to play KH Birth by Sleep.
