Tuesday, March 27th, 2012Still More Surfing: Get A Job

With it brought seven new classic Final Fantasy jobs, available to players to specialize in based on their Disciple of War and Magic classes. When the level requirements are met (main job must be Lv. 30 with support job being Lv. 15), you can undertake a quest to transform your character into a Paladin, Bard, Warrior, Monk, Dragoon, White Mage, or Black Mage.
These new jobs also have some pretty snazzy Artifact Armor though these quests, and you can view them all in action in the video below courtesy of YouTube user himesworld.

Final Fantasy XIV spellcasting changes for 1.21
Thursday, March 1st, 2012The upcoming patch for Final Fantasy XIV will include some changes to Disciple of Magic class abilities that will affect the casting of spells in combat. Currently, casting a spell and moving about will not interrupt the cast — but after the patch hits you’ll need to remain stationary in order for the spell to hit. Catching up with Nobuo Uematsu
Wednesday, February 29th, 2012Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu is a part of a growing trend amongst Japanese video game composers that have gone freelance, adopting a more western approach by taking work as it comes through contracts rather than being salaried employees.
Contrary to unsubstantiated rumors that Uematsu quit because of creative differences or was fired from Square Enix years ago, the composer continues to work with company on games such as Final Fantasy XIV, arrangement albums such as the recently released Piano Opera: Final Fantasy I/II/III, and collaborating to bring the Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy tour to fans across the globe. Other longtime composers like Hitoshi Sakimoto have founded their own companies (Basiscape) but still continue to compose for Square Enix games.
Recently, Uematsu was interviewed about his current operations, including his work at Dog Ear Records and as an organist and keyboardist for Earthbound Papas. His comments on that, as well as the industry as a whole, can be viewed in the video below:

Introducing… Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
Monday, February 27th, 2012We first learned about Bravely Default: Flying Fairy game at its official unveiling at last year’s Tokyo Game Show. For any Final Fantasy fan, this game might be a familiar (and welcome) throwback to the days of pre-rendered backgrounds. Originally set to be a sequel to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light (also developed by Matrix Software and with art direction by Akihiko Yoshida), this game also returns the feel of old-school Final Fantasy — even if the subtitle serves only as a reminder of the series it originates from. To create a nostalgic feel, the developers bravely default to the style and mechanics that won us over in years’ past.
The game itself will feature many classic elements, but incorporate new ones as well, such as the Augmented Reality feature on the game’s platform: 3DS. Combat, exploration, and story are tried and true Final Fantasy flair — but with a three dimensional twist.
Bravely Default: Flying Fariy is set to release on the Nintendo 3DS this year, and starting now we’ll be covering all the developments prior to release. Long time fans of Final Fantasy: what do you think of this game? Make sure to sound off in the comments below!
