Mevius Website Live with Message from Kitase

December 17th, 2014 by Tony Garsow

Square Enix has launched the official website for Mevius Final Fantasy, a new RPG announced for tablets and smartphones. Producer Yoshinori Kitase left a message for both Japanese and English-speaking fans — that we’re to expect this to be more ambitious from what Square Enix or other RPG creators for the mobile space have done in the past.

“A new era of gaming is here. We’re crafting a full-scale high-quality RPG world the likes the world has never seen before on smartphones and tablets. This is the end product of longtime Final Fantasy creators bringing the series to mobile–and things will never be the same.”

You can check out the official website here.

Mevius Final Fantasy will release in Japan in Spring 2015 for iOS/Android.

    hyperbole as hell kitase.

A game where movement takes care of itself is already a no for me. I can accept it as a spinoff anytime. But I can 99% guarantee it won’t be the next big thing. Maybe a great smartphone game, that’s it.

I don’t know….this all seems a little much for JUST a mobile game. I mean look, they even had Amano do the logo art. And automated could just mean tap & that’s where you’ll go, which wouldn’t be much different than Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks.

Y’all are misinterpreting what Kitase said about automatic movement. He means that on the World Map, you will select your location via a cursor, like FFX-2 and The Last Remnant. However, when you actually get to the location, you will have full 3D movement like a traditional FF game.

Anyway, I’m excited for this game for the sole reason that with Kitase making it (and possibly the many future patches and sequels that will follow), he won’t be making FFXVI. That game will have to be done by somebody else, most likely Hiroyuki Ito.

I really don’t like the sound of this. My theory is SE may one day move FF to mobile full time, or perhaps have a mainline entry on mobile phones, and frikin Kitase is proving my theory.

  • Hiroyuki_Ito_XVI

No, Square Enix will never move mainline FF to mobiles. Kitase confirmed that mainline FF will always be on the most powerful hardware available. All this game proves is that Kitase and his team are no longer making mainline FF games.

I wonder just how high end this project is. It looks like a FFI reincarnation. That guys outfit is strange tho..
