FF Legends job system combines old and new

September 6th, 2010 by Tony Garsow

b_ffl_amanobannerTonight, Square-Enix updated the official website for Final Fantasy Legends: Warriors of Light and Darkness with juicy new details on how the mobile phone title’s job system will function. It seems like it’s straight out of classic Final Fantasy, in which characters are able to choose from a bevy of classes over the course of the game, and are able to mix and match them to their liking. Similar to Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy Legends’ jobs will accrue new abilities when ability points are earned after battle. These abilities can be equipped to different classes as well, including a “Freelancer”-type job that can use all sort of weapons and abilities. The first jobs we’ll be seeing in Final Fantasy Legends are all staples of the franchise. They include: Fighter, Monk, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, Summoner, and a Freelancer (no job but more abilities).

Players will also be able to use these abilities to create unique combination attacks depending on the jobs they choose. This is a feature reminiscent of the team’s earlier project Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. New jobs and new combinations will be unlocked in subsequent chapters, and the team expresses that you should experiment with different jobs should you decide to replay a specific chapter of the game.
