TGS 2017 – New Play Arts Kai Figurines

September 21st, 2017 by Peter

Square Enix showed us a treat with their new line of Play Arts Kai Figures at Tokyo Game Show 2017. They announced a multitude of figures which include: Cloud & Fenrir ver 2, Cid & Cait Sith, Vincent, Zack Fair from Final Fantasy VII.

They also announced Terra Brandford and Lightning figurines in a Dissidia Final Fantasy line-up of figures and action figurines based on Bahamut and Odin. It seems Square Enix had a lot up their sleeve for this year’s Tokyo Game Show when it comes to figurines.

The Play Arts Kai figures are a set of officially licensed Final Fantasy figures from Square Enix themselves that debuted in 2009 and is also the successor of the original figurine line simply known as Play Arts. Play Arts Kai isn’t just figurines based on Square Enix properties but they’ve made figures from other game franchises like Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, and Resident Evil. They’ve also made figurines based on comic and movie properties especially Star Wars, DC Comics, Star Trek, and Marvel Comics. Tetsuya Nomura has also designed his versions of characters like Batman and Catwoman!

The Lightning figurine based on Dissidia Final Fantasy will be the first to launch on January 2018 and it’s followed by Terra, Bahamut, Odin, and Zack Fair in Spring 2018. The Final Fantasy VII line-up of figures will be released last in Summer 2018. More announcements from Square Enix will be revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2017 so keep your eyes open.

Update (9/27/2017) : The Lightning and Cloud Play Arts Kai are currently available for pre-order on the Japanese Square Enix store.
