Shinra Technologies Streaming Service

September 19th, 2014 by Tony Garsow

Announced today at Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix will be launching a new cloud-based gaming company called Shinra Technologies — of Final Fantasy VII fame. Square Enix is collaborating with — yes, not a joke — Avalanche Studios, the team behind Just Cause 2. Shinra hopes to innovate by creating truly persistent worlds in video games and allow users to play games unrestricted by hardware limitations.

Former Square Enix president and CEO Yoichi Wada, who now heads this endeavor, introduces us in the video above, where they spell out their mission statement and we get a peek into the Shinra Technologies HQ.

A technical beta will begin early next year and include Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider, Hitman: Absolution, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The Agni’s Philosophy tech demo will also be available through the service, and “players” will be able to manipulate certain properties.

Recently Square Enix also announced DiveIn, a streaming service for Japan that will let you stream man games — including the Final Fantasy series to your mobile phone. You can read more on that here.
