Tour the Dead Dunes of Lightning Returns

Earlier this year, Square Enix updated the official Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII webpage to include panoramic views of the North Station and Business Street of Luxerion. Now, you’re able to tour the dunes themselves along with an ancient structure. From a static position, you can rotate the camera 360 degrees around you, as well as look up or down.

Two of the four major regions that comprise Nova Chrysalia have been revealed, with the third being the Wildlands — a forest area with its own ancient dwellings to discover. The fourth is yet unnamed, yet speculated to be the remains of Valhalla. As she journeys through the Dead Dunes, Lightning will encounter a bandit clan and hunt for a “holy relic” by exploring the expanse. She’ll be able to slide down the dunes as she travels, a necessary ability to evade some of the monsters that will pursue her in the sands.

You can view the Dead Dunes panorama here.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is scheduled to release this year for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Man I really want this game. Some may hate XIII trilogy and while it is indeed not as good as some of the better prior entries (VII, X, XII for example) it’s not exactly horrible and I for one liked 13-2, It had flaws yes, but it was definitely not a cheap passionless cash in some make it out to be. LR may be the same type of thing to them, but IMO SE, or at least Toriyama’s team, are making a real effort to expand the playable area and put together an altogether better game than the last two XIII. While I want Versus more, this game will still be awesome.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had our last Lightning Returns media update, so I hope the next batch is sizable. I was thinking we’d be hearing about the Wildlands by now!
