Snow Returns in Lightning Returns

Snow Villiers was last seen in the Coliseum in Final Fantasy XIII-2, but it seems like the hero isn’t down and out for Lightning Returns. Seen here in this scan in this week’s Jump, Snow looks rather snappy in a black suit. However, it appears, he’s not of his usual heroic demeanor, upset that he was unable to save his fiance Serah Farron. Now, Snow has become the mayor of the City of Pleasure — for some reason!

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be presented at this year’s E3 along with interviews with director Motomu Toriyama and producer Yoshinori Kitase. A release for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is coming this autumn, and will also be distributed digitally through PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

What do you think Snow is up to? Leave us a comment with your thoughts below!

    Mr.33cm strikes again, this time in the City of Pleasure and Black Clothing.

    I feel really sorry for Snow and Serah. They’ve had nothing but bad luck since day one, and they are so attached to each other. I’m actually hoping that he won’t have to be fought. To have Lightning just fighting all her former allies to purge the Chaos from them seems…well…a bit too cliched. And I’m still hoping for a new character that will help rather than be a problem for Lightning (maybe a reformed fal’Cie in human form?).

    @AnimaMagna Just look at the he’s dressed… do you really think he’s gonna be helping anyone? He’s joined the dark side now and unfortunately it’s up to Lightning to bring him back. And we already know Noel must be fought as well. But it’s not all bad. Hope will be there to help and who knows in what way Sazh will make his reappearance. I’m just so intrigued by everyone’s stories, especially Noel’s and Caius’s.

    Alright, granted he will have to be fought.. Why did they have to make him all-black? Hope they bring in a brightly-colored character at some point apart from Chocolina: I mean a Serah-lookalike goth, Snow turned into something from Versus XIII, Lightning looking more than a little grim.. I know the game’s a gloomy one, but a little color can’t hurt, can it?

    Final boss right there. lol

    @AnimaMagna I reckon if you’re here, that you’ve already heard of the developer’s intentions to use black and white as the main color themes of this game, in a departure from the colorful worlds of the two previous titles. Plus, it’s kinda got a “lightning vs the world” thing going on there, so it all makes sense. You do have a point though. This game does look really dark, but I think it can support that, considering what’s happened in the story. They were supposed to save the world, they failed, everything went to crap, no one can die, it’s not a pretty picture. But I think there will be plenty of color at the end of it all.

    @alexsam
    Honestly, I didn’t know they were deliberately playing on a color-oriented dualism theme. I thought it was just unimaginative design choices or the need for obvious stereotypes for the gamer at large (this man’s in black, he’s bad: this woman’s, in red and white, she’s good: that sort of thing)

  • alexsam

    No, Toriyama actually mentioned that the goth black-white style is something they want to implement in this game, so that it can make a sort of contrast with the whole colorful, technological theme of the other two games. And I don’t think we’ll be seeing anyone wearing white in this game.

    I think that fighting against an old friend would be kinda interesting for both!! I never thought that Snow would be the bad guy !!

    At the Lightning Returns event in January, we saw Lightning fighting Noel (not in a cutscene, but in an actual battle) so her fighting Snow may not be so farfetched.

    For some reason, I’d enjoy beating Snow’s face into next week! lol
