Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII E3 Trailer

June 6th, 2013 by Tony Garsow

Today Square Enix has unveiled the official E3 trailer and release date for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Releasing in North America on February 11th, 2014 and February 14th in Europe for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the final chapter in the Final Fantasy XIII saga is about to begin.

Our new trailer and screenshots below shows of the new city of Yusnaan, as well as the return of Snow Villiers. The trailer’s theme “The Savior” is composed by Naoshi Mizuta. You can download the new track from iTunes here. As you can see from the trailer above, the game has quite a different look than its predecessors.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be playable at this year’s E3, so expect our report soon!

“The trailer’s theme “The Savior” is composed by Naoshi Mizuta.”

What a nasty music! Too much electronic, and too less simphonic. That is clearly the wrong direction for a good soundtrack. If you add to the crappy music the appearance of the worst FFXIII character, Snow “the motherslayer ‘hero'”, and to the top of it you add that AGAIN SQEX lied to us with the release date (they promised it for late 2013) my hype for this game clearly decreased after seeing that trailer.

I hope they can revert this unexpected situation of decreasing hype @ E3 with good and attractive stuff, or I will be buying this game in 2015, when it costs 20-30€. A more appropiate price I think for what I’m seeing.

Please, be excited for this? No thanks! (but I was)

Looks like Snow’s on the way to becoming Cei’th. Where’s that happy ending they promised? Hmph!

  • Martiph

It becomes a lot dramatic now, so im pretty excited about this game !!
The thing that surprised me is about fighthing Snow, I hope he wont die in the end !!

Oh noes…another cutscene fest! The cheesy, cringe worthy dialogue returns as well…seems to be all over the place

  • alexsam

Geez, Snow, Noel… are we gonna have to fight Dajh as well?!

  • Chris

    Serah’s the final boss

  • AnimaMagna

I’ve noticed something about the trailer. It looks…incomplete somehow, not a proper trailer. Many of the scenes in it end at the wrong moments for a proper E3 trailer. I think we’ll see a much longer version of this trailer at the event itself. And as to the ‘hero’ I think Lightning will renounce being the ‘Savior’ and become the ‘hero’ unless the prophecy is wrong (which wouldn’t be a first for an Oracle Drive).

Forever bitter that everyone seems to have gone on a shopping spree and left Noel behind~ :C

Also, is that the eye of Snow’s l’cie brand OPENING? Could explain the strange red hue around him in the screen. He’s turning cieth.

Hate to add onto the negativaty but i still hate this “trilogy”. But at least there going to finally SOMEHOW tie up the loose ends. Like Snow finally meeting up to Serah…

    Garbage. Absolute garbage.

looks like this new battle seem to take on fours move per each battle feels really similar to pokemon to some extent, but each face button represent a move. Prediction: I guess in the menu users can change each skill in one of four slots. Paradigm shift is back just changing jobs.

Seems okay, but toriyama should use only his own original series, let someone else to be involved in ff.

    Cool! 😉

Btw, anyone knows why Squre-Enix decided to change the typography of the “Final Fantasy” subtitle of the “Lightning Returns – Final Fantasy XIII” title?

I think this is the first time amongst all the multiple FF spinoffs and satellite games they released that the “final Fantasy” subtitle has a completely different and new typography, which I completely dislike and disagree with the decision.

I have checked it in Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, Revenant Wings, both Dissidias, Theatrythm and even with A Realm Reborn, and the typography of the “Final Fantasy” words always shows the classic and loved by all style, except for this Lighting Return.

Is there a logical explanation for that change? Anyone knows something?

  • AnimaMagna

They want it to stand on its own, as they have stated more than once (and I think that was their original intention with each game in the FNC series). Yes, it’s a sequel, and yes it features characters from one of the mainline games, but they’ve put in so much stuff that’s conventionally foreign to the Final Fantasy brand that it can be a game on its own. The typography change is just a more obvious symptom of this decision.

    @ mike
FF has always had cringeworthy dialogue, that’s what made it great!
