Lightning Returns Collector’s Edition Unveiled

December 11th, 2013 by Tony Garsow

Square Enix has revealed the Collectors’ Edition for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, set to release in February of next year. In addition to the special packaging seen in the image below, you’ll also get an 80-page artbook, silver-embossed pocket watch, and a DLC code for an Aerith Gainsborough outfit from Final Fantasy VII.

The artbook includes Character Designer Tetsuya Nomura’s original artwork, including his early sketches of the characters, a foreword by Final Fantasy XIII Series Art Director Isamu Kamikokuryou, an introspective look at the worlds and architecture of the Nova Chrysalia world, and a Final Fantasy nostalgia section that showcases crossover costumes and series’ fan favorites moogles and chocobos.

The Collector’s Edition will be an exclusive to the Square Enix Store, which you can view here.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will release on February 11th in North America and February 14th in Europe. Available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, PlayStation Network users will be able to download a digital version at release (9.6GB space required).

  • I really don’t see the point in all these Collector’s Editions. All they do is raise the value of the game while not actually implementing anything in particular. I am still regretting my decision to purchase the FF XIV CE. Mind you, it was the first and last CE I’ll ever buy.

    That clock looks boss though!

Any word on a UK collectors edition?

I was waiting when Square would announce this! Just ordered. I cannot wait to get this game.

  • Lexi

It would be great if they could ship it to my country as well…

I’m saving up to get the Collector’s Edition Piggyback Stretegy Guide. So looking forward to those extra 32 pages alongside everything else in that book. Could well find juicy stories from behind the scenes.

Just ordered this. I was waiting/hoping they would announce a collector’s edition! I can’t wait to get and play this game and then get FF X limited edition the next month! 2014 will be a great year for FF.

  • Jeels

Indeed! Lot’s of great stuff coming in the first half of the year.

  • AnimaMagna

So much coming. By the way, the Collector’s Edition Piggyback Strategy Guide looks a real treat. Going to pre-order it as it has a limited run. But that watch… I never, ever expected that, even from Square Enix.

  • Jeels

I bought the Piggyback guides for XIII and XIII2 and they are really top notch, high quality. The hard cover is sweet too.

  • KanjiLikesBoys

    No OST? pffffft

  • Tyler

Question: If I buy the Collector’s Edition from the Square Enix Store, it’ll be Region 1 right? So if there’s any future DLC released, it won’t work on my region 4 PS3. Is that right?

  • Jeels

Hey Tyler! DLC is region locked. So if for example you buy the Lightning Returns Collector’s Edition from the US (Region 1), then for future DLC to work, you will have to download it from the US Playstation Store. (You should be able to make a US Playstation Store account by creating a US user on your PS3 and then buying PSN credit off the web).

There are exceptions, sometimes DLC will work with all regions, but this is not always the case.

  • Tyler

Thanks Jeels! I thought that was the case. The Collector’s Edition looks too awesome to pass up, so I’ll buy it anyway and work out the DLC later if I need to.
