Lightning Returns Battle & Ability Details

July 26th, 2013 by Tony Garsow

Lightning starts out her journey in the city of Yusnaan with seven days left before the end of the world. This oasis in the desert is home to a fal’Cie that is able to provide residents with enough resources to survive. Despite the people of Luxerion choosing to live out the rest of their days in reservation and prayer, the people of Yusnaan are happy with celebrating the end of the world. Snow, who currently serves as a l’Cie to Yusnaan’s fal’Cie, is a point of interest for Lumina — a character Lightning encounters that seems to help and hinder the Savior on her quest.

It’s no wonder that the Slaughterhouse is located here, an arena where Lightning can take on different monsters throughout the day. By participating in battles, you can win spoils like Incentive Chips or Ethers. More difficult enemies are unlocked by participating in the Slaughterhouse schedule, which will change throughout the day. Obviously, how you spend your time matters a great deal

Lightning can equip various types of clothes into a Schema, as well as various battle abilities. In her Black Mage Schema, Lightning will be able to combine some of her magic such as Thundara and Aerora, as seen in the image above. Other abilities including Area Sweep will be useful for when Lightning is surrounded by multiple enemies.

Your physical abilities can also trigger a Counterblow if executed at the right time, interrputing an enemy’s attack. By maneuvering Lightning around in battle, you may be able to dismember parts of monsters and gain a better set of spoils after battle. This may also prevent them from using certain abilities.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII releases on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 21st (Japan), February 11th (North America), and February 14th (Europe).

I wonder how can she do that 😮

Probably by Combining the two spells by eating up more points that she has for each schema.

I sincerely hope they have a battle them as energizing and frantic as Desperate Struggle in there somewhere. Switching between Black Mage, Equilibrium and Dark Muse against a Behemoth or something like that would be SUPER COOL!
