The newest issue of Famitsu has more to share about the returning cast of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Caius Ballad, the immortal villain that made his debut in Final Fantasy XIII-2 will make his way back into the story — as will Paddra Nsu-Yeul, the Seeress whom Serah and Noel encountered many times on their journey.
Lightning won’t merely reunite with her l’Cie alum in the third and final outing in the Final Fantasy XIII saga, she’ll do battle with them. Seen in the images below, Lightning confronts both Noel Kreiss and Snow Villiers in combat — likely because of the five-hundred years that have elapsed since the second game. In that time, Noel has come to blame himself for the destruction of the world and the goddess Etro, and Snow seeks to be reunited with Serah — but cannot as he is now bound by a fal’Cie’s Focus.
We also know that Oerba Yun Fang will appear in the Dead Dunes, a vast expance of desert and ruin in which she leads the Monoculus band to search and pilfer relics of the past. Her Pulsian cohort Oerba Dia Vanille will be found in the city of Luxerion, a city where people are known for their piety and quietly worship — waiting for the end of days.
Hope Estheim will assist Lightning from the Ark — a place outside the realm of Nova Chrysalia. Given his younger visage back by the god Bhunivelze, he will send Lightning on quests to save the souls of humanity in preparation for the end of the world. Sazh Katzroy has put himself up in the Wildlands with his son Dajh, who has been asleep for the centuries since the end of Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will release on November 21st in Japan, February 11th in North America, and February 14th in Europe. Available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, PlayStation Network users will be able to download a digital version at release.
