Square Enix recently held a 25th anniversary broadcast for the SaGa RPG series in Japan — announcing that a brand new game in the series will be headed to PlayStation Vita in 2015. Seen in brief glimpses of artwork by renowned SaGa series illustrator Tomomi Kobayashi, the game will be the first non-mobile or non-remake title for the series since the PlayStation 2’s Unlimited SaGa back in 2003. Kenji Ito, a prominent composer in the series, will contribute to the soundtrack.
Since then, the SaGa series has had sparse representation in Square Enix’s line-up. Earlier titles in the franchise, known to overseas fans as Final Fantasy Legend II and III, received remakes for the Nintendo DS — but were never localized. A mobile gachapon-RPG called Emperors’ SaGa was also released exclusively to Japan.
The broadcast also announced a PC browser SaGa game called Imperial SaGa.
Here’s hoping it comes overseas.
