I know you may be asking... why a FAQ for such an old game? Well, I was recently digging through my games, when I came across FFMQ and decided to play it, since I haven't for a good amount of years. So I popped it into my SNES, and though I agree it's not the best game in the entire world, it's still a pretty fun game to play through. And I didn't see a Boss FAQ anywhere, so why the hell not? -------------------------------- CHAPTER 2: CONTACTING ME -------------------------------- If you feel I left something out, or have an alternate strategy of your own, feel free to e-mail me. If you're also having troubles and want some help in any part of the game, I'll try my best to answer your question(s). -------------------------------- CHAPTER 3: LEGAL STUFF -------------------------------- The latest version of this guide will always be posted at GameFAQs first. I'm going to list the strategies on how I beat them. We ready? Good. ------------------- BOSS 1: BEHEMOTH ------------------- HP: 80 EXP: 84 GOLD: 3 --The very first boss of the game. You'll take turns smacking each other around. You can die in this fight, so be aware of that. But it's not like you can do anything about it, since you don't have any healing items or spells and such. Just keep attacking him. He may get a critical hit in, and that'll mean the end of you. If you die, just try again. You'll eventually kill him. ------------------- BOSS 2: MINOTAUR ------------------- HP: 240 EXP: 84 GOLD: 3 --Make sure you're at least Level 3 before fighting him, or else you might have some troubles, and I really hope you got the Cure book. You'll have a partner for this fight, so it'll make it somewhat easier. Watch out for Minotaurs Roundhouse attack. It'll knock a whopping 60-80 HP off of you. His Scream attack lowers your defense, which can be fatal if he uses a Roundhouse to follow, and his Axe attack does moderate damage. All in all, always have the main character and Kaeli attack, until someone needs healing or reviving. Kaeli has the Life spell, so use that when the main character is knocked out, and use the Cure spell with the Hero to get to full HP. If you don't get it your first try, just try again, or level up a few more levels. From several e-mailers: Simply casting Life on it will kill it. ------------------- BOSS 3: FLAMERUS REX ------------------- HP: 2,200 EXP: 120 GOLD: 0 --This is your first real battle, so be prepared for a fight. Rex has an attack called RIp Earth, which will do heavy damage to the Hero and Tristam, so you'll have to be on your toes with healing, since it's one of his more- used attacks. Bone Missile will do some critical damage too, but it's only too one character, however, it's his most used attack. He'll eventually use Twin Fang, which only does huge damage if it hits twice. He barely uses his Sleep Powder, but it's still dangerous. Have the Hero cast Quake to cause around 200 or so damage, and Tristam attack with his Ninja Stars, which should also do a good amount of damage. Whenever you run out of Black Magic, have the Hero switch over to Bombs and attack with those to do about 190 points of damage. Make sure to keep your HP at a moderate level, since he'll get a few attacks in first. Heal with the Hero when your HP are low, and have Tristam keep attacking. After awhile, he should fall. ------------------- BOSS 4: SQUIDITE ------------------- HP: 2,500 EXP: 219 GOLD: 6 --This is a very easy battle. Take out his little buddies first with physical attacks, not magic. When they're done, if you need to heal, do so with the Hero, and have Phoebe use her Thunder spell to cause some serious damage. Have the Hero keep attacking the Squidite, but heal also, since his Choke Up attack can do some heavy damage. Just keep wailing on him and he'll be dead in no time. ------------------- BOSS 5: SNOW CRAB ------------------- HP: 3,000 EXP: 234 GOLD: 6 --This boss can either be easy, or hard, depends on his arsenal of attacks he decides to use. Have the Hero take out Snow Crab's companions, but watch out, they like to counter. Have Phoebe use Thunder on just the Snow Crab, and once you run out of Thunder magic, just use the Bow and Arrow. Snow Crab likes to confuse, so stay on your toes with curing and healing. He also has Tornado which can do up to 600 damage, but he rarely uses it. Make sure to use an Axe for this fight, since the Snow Crab should be weak against Axe Attacks. ------------------- BOSS 6: ICE GOLEM ------------------- HP: 6,500 EXP: 246 GOLD: 0 --Make sure you're completely healed before going into this fight, and when I mean healed, I mean full HP and Spell points. Have Phoebe and the Hero use Fire magic every turn until it runs out, since of course, he's weak against it. After that's done, have Phoebe use Thunder, and the Hero keep attacking with the new sword you got. Heal with the Hero and Phoebe whenever your HP is low. Most, if not all, of his attacks do around 200-300 points of damage. But he'll leave a big boo-boo with this Stomp Stomp attack, and heal himself with his Snowstorm attack. Heal and attack, and he'll die eventually. ------------------- BOSS 7: JINN ------------------- HP: 6,000 EXP: 504 GP: 15 --This battle won't be cake, but it's not the hardest one in the game. The hardest one, in my opinion, is coming up soon. Anyways, take out his little buddies first, then have the Hero either use Quake or Thunder on Jinn, and have Reuben attack. Heal with the Hero when needed, and revive with Reuben. Jinn's attacks can do some heavy damage, but his noticeable one is Flame Pillar, which will do massive damage if you're not protected against Fire attacks. Just heal and revive when you need to, and once you run out of Quake, use Thunder. If you ran out of Thunder, use Quake. Just try to take him out ASAP. ------------------- BOSS 8: MEDUSA ------------------- HP: 6,500 EXP: 510 GOLD: 15 --Ugh... I hate this fight. Hopefully you have the spell White, because it'll come in handy during this fight. The annoying thing about Medusa, is she'll Stone you, and she'll do it quite often. So make sure to have a good amount of Heal Potions/White Spell points on you. She'll also paralyze and confuse your characters, which is a big no-no in this fight. First things first, take out her company, and then focus on her. DO NOT USE WHITE UNTIL MEDUSA IS BY HERSELF! It should do over 1,000 damage if it hits her alone. She'll also attack first most of the time, so hope to god she doesn't keep using her Stone Stare or Para-Snake or Screech Voice a lot. She also has an attack called Snake Head will take out a buttload of damage if it hits 8 times. You may die the first time, or first few times in this fight. Just have the Hero keep casting White, and Reuben healing/reviving and attacking and she'll go down eventually. ------------------- BOSS 9: DUALHEAD HYDRA ------------------- HP: 14,000 EXP: 429 GOLD: 0 --YAY! ANOTHER HUGE BEAST! I certainly hope you grabbed the Moon Helmet in this dungeon, because if you didn't, you'll most likely be dying over and over. Why? Because Dualhead's Fire attacks are very strong, and the Moon Helm makes you strong against Fire attacks. Without it, the Hero is pretty much done for. To the battle, he can also poison you, paralyze you, and stone you, so you'll need to be healing left and right. His Scrunch attack isn't anything to worry about. Just watch out for the Fire Breath attack. Have the Hero use White. When he runs out of Wizard Spell points, use a Seed. You should've bought some in Fireburg. Always have Reubun attack, and have the Hero be the healer if you're low on HP. Just keep slapping him around and he'll be dead in no time. ------------------- BOSS 10: GIDRAH ------------------- HP: 13,000 EXP: 729 GOLD: 18 --You have a new spell to use in this fight; Aero. Use it, because Gidrah and his little buddies are weak against it. The only dangerous thing about Gidrah is that he can stone you, and he'll do it quite often. He also has a Tornado attack, which will do some good damage to you. He'll also paralyze you, but nothing a Heal spell/potion can't fix. Just heal when needed, and slap him around with some Aeros, and he'll fall just like that. ------------------- BOSS 11: DULLHAN ------------------- HP: 14,000 EXP: 750 GOLD: 21 --*sighs* All these buddies with bosses are getting annoying. When the battle starts, have both the Hero and Kaeli use Aero to wipe out his buddies. After that, have the Hero use Meteor and Kaeli keep using Aero, and you'll whack a good amount of HP off of him. However, it's not that easy. He has an attack called Doom Dance, which you guessed, can kill you instantly. And from what I've seen, it works about 60% of the time, so you'll want to keep both characters alive at all times. Just keep whacking him with Meteor and Aero, heal when needed, and he'll be dead. ------------------- BOSS 12: PAZUZU ------------------- HP: 25,000 EXP: 618 GOLD: 0 --Seems like Big Bird got into the Muscle Juice. This fight isn't as bad as the other three bosses guarding the Crystals. He also fights alone, which is a big plus. However, just about all of his attacks will hit both characters, doing around 500-700 points of damage. Just have both the Hero and Kaeli use Aero every turn, since Pazuzu is weak against it. After a few rounds of attacking, he'll use his Psyche Shield attack, which will repel any attacks you throw at him. This is your cue to start healing if you need to. After about one or two turns, Pazuzu will take down the Psyche Shield, and go back to normal attacking. Just keep nailing him with Aeros and healing when you need to, and he'll be dead. Congrats. You got all four Crystals. However, we're not done yet. ------------------- BOSS 13: SKULLRUS REX ------------------- HP: 10,000 EXP: 759 GOLD: 0 --Hey, remember this guy? You fought him way back at the Bone Dungeon. Only this is a different version. But he's just like the one you fought in the Bone Dungeon, so you should know what to do against him. Just use Flare or White with the Hero, Phoebe attack, and heal. His buddies will be dead in two turns, and Rex should be dead quickly. ------------------- BOSS 14: STONE GOLEM ------------------- HP: 10,000 EXP: 762 GOLD: 0 --Just like the Ice Golem, except he's not Ice. Use Flare the first turn with the Hero. Although the Stone Golem is strong against it, his little buddies aren't, and it'll take them out in one hit. When they're done, have the Hero cast White, and Phoebe attack, and heal, because his Stone Block attack will do 800+ points of damage to one character. You should be strong to paralyze and stone attacks by now, so don't worry about those. Just keep having the Hero use White, and Phoebe attack and heal, and you should be fine. ------------------- BOSS 15: TWINHEAD WYVERN ------------------- HP: 15,000 EXP: 600 GOLD: 0 --Yet another replica of a boss. This battle is simple. Twinhead has the same attacks as Dualhead had, so it'll be cake. Just have Hero use Meteor the first turn, and Phoebe use White, and his two friends will be dead. Then just have both keep using White until Twinhead is dead. You'll most likely won't have to heal much in this fight. It's a cakewalk. ------------------- BOSS 16: ZUH ------------------- HP: 20,000 EXP: 750 GOLD: 0 --Alright, the second to last boss of the game. Zuh is just like his counter- part, Pazuzu, only with less HP. This battle is also very simple. Just have the Hero use Flare, and Phoebe use White, and Zuh and his two friends will be dead in no time. Just make sure not to hit him while he's using his Psyche Sheild, and heal when you need to. ------------------- BOSS 17: DARK KING ------------------- HP: 40,000 EXP: 0 GOLD: 0 --Of course, being the last battle, you can expect a few cheap attacks. Phoebe will be your main healer in this fight. Make sure she's the one who gives the Hero Seeds, because these are critical in this fight. Have the Hero use Flare on Dark King, and Phoebe, when given the chance, use White, but only if she's not healing or using Seeds. He'll transform after taking enough damage, and grow some arms with weapons on them. This means trouble. All of his attacks now will do over 500 damage. So you'll really want to keep Phoebe alive for this part. Just have the Hero keep smacking him around with Flares, and have Phoebe use Seeds when needed, and he'll transform again. Now he has three dangerous attacks; Mega Flare, Mega White, and Silver Web. Mega Flare and Mega White are as the name says, they're Mega versions of your spells, and will take out a huge chunk of your HP. Silver Web will confuse and poison Phoebe if it hits her. If it hits the Hero, nothing should happen. He'll also use Spider Kids from time to time to knock off about 800 points of damage towards you. Just keep using the strategy of having the Hero use Flare, and Phoebe heal and use Seeds, and use White when given the chance, and Dark King will eventually fall. Alternate strategy by Zakian; You can cast cure on him (only once though) and make sure to do it with Phoebe..it should knock off about 23,000 hp on him. If you use it again, it will heal him for an insane amount Congrats! You've beaten Final Fantasy Mystic Quest! -------------------------------- CHAPTER 5: CREDITS/THANKS -------------------------------- Credits and Thanks; -http://www.rootsecure.net/?p=ascii_generator: For the ASCII. -Several E-Mailers: For the Minotaur tip. -CJayC: For running an awesome site which has helped me through many games. -Zakian: For the alternate strategy for Dark King.
