Will Final Fantasy Explorers Come Westward?

June 22nd, 2014 by Tony Garsow

If newly filed trademarks by Square Enix are any indication, Final Fantasy Explorers may be coming to North America and Europe. Recently announced in an issue of Japanese gaming magazine Jump, the game is an action-RPG stuffed with elements of the classic entries in the series. You’ll be able to chose from one of around twenty jobs, mixing and matching abilities to use against familiar foes such as Ifrit.

While overseas trademarks may prelude a pending localization announcement, it’s not entirely certain that the game my be westward bound. Square Enix partnered with Nintendo to bring Bravely Default overseas, the latter acting as the publisher. Due to the game’s success, albeit launched far later than its Japanese counterpart, what’s to say Square Enix won’t publish Explorers themselves? Both games share a similar affinity for classic elements of the Final Fantasy series reborn — something which may have a perfect niche carved out for handheld devices.

It’s also possible that Square Enix may relegate publishing duties to Nintendo, which may push a possible localization a bit further down the line — but a localization regardless.

Some additional details about Final Fantasy Explorers also made the Japanese game magazine circuit recently, check them out here.

What do you think? Are you expecting Square Enix to announce a localization any time soon? What are you most looking forward to in Final Fantasy Explorers based on information we’ve learned so far? Leave us your thoughts in a comment below!
