Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core
The newest entry in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, recently released in Japan and set for an early 2008 release abroad, is regarded by early importers and fans as the most epic and heartfelt in the compilation. Directed by Tetsuya Nomura, fans eagerly await its release on the Playstation Portable.
Set years before the original, this game stars Final Fantasy VII's lost hero Zack Fair, and ties up the story of the entire compilation, featuring prominent series characters such as Sephiroth, Cloud, Aeris, Angeal, Genesis, Tifa, Jenova, Hojo, and many more. Delving too much into the rather unknown story would be spoileriffic, but the game stars Zack during his time with SOLDIER, and ends with the beginning of Final Fantasy VII, and interesting twist.
Crisis Core is a mission based game, with the player traveling the world of FFVII taking on different missions as a member of SOLDIER. The material system returns, but in a different form. The battles are both action and menu based, known as the DMV or Digital Mind Wave system. A roulette constantly spins in the upper corner of the battles, effecting the overall fights dramatically. Players select attacks and magic through these menus, while moving around with Zack.
A limited edition Crisis Core PSP Bundle was released in Japan, with only 77,777 copies (a pun to the game's title) being released. In total, Crisis Core has sold over 500,000 copies in Japan, with Western gamers eagerly awaiting its release.
