Final Fantasy V is the fifth installment of the Final Fantasy Series. Developed in 1992 by Square, it was launched exclusively in Japan for the Nintendo SNES. It's popularity has prompted Square to port the game to both the Sony Playstation and the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, both with minor differences from the original.
Final Fantasy V follows around the protagonist, Bartz. Bartz is a wanderer who discovers a fallen meteor and decides to investigate. While investigating, mysterious characters confront Bartz and inform him of the danger facing the Four Crystals. These Crystals act as a barrier to ExDeath, an evil sorcerer who once threatened their world. Bartz sets out on his journey to stop the Crystals from being exploited by ExDeath's influence, thereby preventing ExDeath's re-emergence into his world.
Final Fantasy V has been adored for its almost limitless customizable options for each character through the new and improved Job System from Final Fantasy III.
As of 2004 2.45 million copies of Final Fantasy V have been sold. Since it wasn't released outside of Japan until 1999, English reviewers' first look at the game was in the Final Fantasy Anthology; released for the Playstation. A total of 394 000 copies of Final Fantasy Anthology have been sold as of 2000.
