Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy IV (Or Final Fantasy II to North Americans) is said to be one of the greatest games of all time. The introduction of the "Active Time Battle" (ATB) system, the amazing score by world famous composer Nobuo Uematsu and great plot won the hearts of many and prompted Square-Enix to create an enhanced version of Final Fantasy IV for the Nintedo DS.
Final Fantasy IV's gameplay differed from the previous Final Fantasies. The new ATB system was a welcome change from the old turn-based system used in both I and II. The player took the role of Cecil Harvey, a Dark Knight of Baron who serves the King. He is also the leader of the "Red Wings", an elite Air Force unit constructed by his engineer friend Cid Polledina. Alongside him is his friend, Kain Highwind. Kain declined the opportunity to become a Dark Knight and instead became a Dragoon. Also joining him is Cecil's girlfriend; Rosa Farrell. She (like her mother) became a white mage and Archer to protect Cecil as her mother protected her father.
The story of Final Fantasy IV revolves around the acquisition of four powerful Crystals. The King of Baron uses the Red Wings, lead by the Dark Knight Cecil, to attack peaceful towns looking for said Crystals. After Cecil and his party find the Water Crystal in the town of Mysidia, he questions the King's motives on the matter. Cecil is immediately stripped of his rank, and set off to deliver a package. After delivering the package, Cecil realizes that the package is nothing more than a bomb. The bomb then explodes, destroying the Village of Mist and many of it's inhabitants. Cecil and his friend Kain traverse through many different Towns, while members of the towns join their party to try and stop the King of Baron from destroying more peaceful towns.
When the game was first released, Square sent out an astounding 1.5 million units of the game in Japan. As of 2006, Final Fantasy IV has sold more than 3 million copies.
