Famitsu details Gilgamesh, Labyrinth mode

February 24th, 2011 by Tony Garsow

The newest issue of Famitsu has more details on Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy‘s newest fighter: Gilgamesh. You can see him in action in a video released by Square-Enix here. Gilgamesh is a collector of rare weapons self-proclaimed “legendary swordsman”; he finds his way into Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy by means of the Dimensional Rift. “Was he summoned by the gods or was it merely an accident?”, asks Famitsu on the nature of his appearance. As his moniker “Scramble Fighter” implies, Gilgamesh is a character that uses his weapons on the fly and as such, the weapons he picks for his attacks can often be random with different properties. In his Ex-Mode “Gilgamesh Change!”, he grows six extra arms and a massive amount of reach and attack hits. As seen in the video below, Gilgamesh’s Ex-Burst can also take on different properties depending on whether he picks Excalibur or Excalipoor. His alternate forms are his FFVIII appearance and his original sprite artwork from FFV.

A new game mode is also available that allows players to enter a labrythine dungeon similar to how the “Duel Colosseum” worked in the original Dissidia. Players can take a party of one to five characters into the Labyrinth fighting battles and earning medals to exchange for special prizes. The deeper you go into the Labyrinth, the more difficult it becomes. However you’ll only find rare items by going as far as you can. You will not be allowed to save in the Labyrinth and upon exiting the game mode you will receive all the spoils you’ve accrued in your dive. We have screenshots of the game mode in Famitsu screenshot video below.
