It’s been ten years since Final Fantasy XI went online, and it’s not often that a MMORPG hits the ten year mark quite as strong. To mark the anniversary, there was a concert featuring Final Fantasy XI music last year in Japan. Now, the DVD version is set to go on sale today in Japan for ¥4500. Take a look at a sampling below:

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011A new video featuring Sony spokeshero Kevin Butler appeared online today, honoring two players from Final Fantasy XI. The couple who go by “Siloeyes” and “Okeneko” met through the game and eventually decided to marry in the real (and much higher resolution) life. You can view his toast in the video below. This changes with “Final Fantasy XI Original Soundtrack -Plus-” This new collection composed by Naoshi Mizuta and Noriko Matsueda will include music from the following scenarios:

FFXI introduces test server, level cap weapons
Monday, August 29th, 2011The team working on Final Fantasy XI has implemented a new test server which will allow players to give direct feedback on new features and content in development for the game. You need to have the PC version of the game to apply to the testing phases that will take place on the server, and there will be a limited number of applicants allowed based on need. In other Final Fantasy XI news, Square-Enix made a video to showcase some of the new weaponry players will have access to at the level cap of 95. Take a look below!
FFXI level cap increase incoming
Wednesday, August 10th, 2011With the new version update of Final Fantasy XI incoming, players will be able to level up to 95 and embark on a new limit break quest. New job abilities, job traits, and magic spells will accompany the new levels. Players will be able to increase their adventuring fellow’s level to 90, provided they complete the corresponding limit break quest.
A new item will also be available called the “Rounsey wand”, that will allow players to teleport to a hub between all of the major FFXI game cities (provided you’re above Lv. 30). You can view it in the video below.
Plans are stewing for FFXI on PS3/PSVita
Tuesday, July 12th, 2011This week’s issue of Famitsu makes it official(-ish). Final Fantasy XI is currently in the works under consideration to be on the PlayStation Vita portable gaming system. Director Hiromichi Tanaka made the announcement, noting that they are assembling staff to work on these projects currently. A PlayStation 3 version is also being considered as well.
Update: Both the PS3 and PSVita versions are being considered however the announcement is not “official”.
Update #2: Tanaka says that the PS3 version is out, per the console’s characteristics (or generally being “harder” to program for).
FFXI celebrates 9th anniversary
Monday, May 16th, 2011Marking the occasion with an in-game event and a new expansion bundle, Square-Enix celebrates the ninth anniversary of Final Fantasy XI’s run. Launching on May 16th, 2002 in Japan for the PlayStation 2, it made it’s way to the PC and 360 worldwide. Square-Enix is now holding an in-game event in which you can get a ring for your character that boosts EXP rates by 100%.

Twenty bucks gets you everything FFXI
Thursday, April 28th, 2011As part of the ninth anniversary year of Final Fantasy XI Online, Square-Enix has a new Ultimate Edition that features all of the games expansions and sub-expansions in one package. The “Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection – Abyssea Edition” will retail for $19.99 on May 16th and will be available for download. This edition will come with a special item: the Destrier Beret. It will allow new players with a lowbie character have an easier time getting to Level 30, which will open up a character to a sub-job. The hat also includes buffs that will let you run faster as well as Auto-Reraise and Refresh (gradual MP recovery).
Players who buy this or all three Abyssea expansions will get a free gift, an in-game statue of titular Tavnazian Prishe for their furnishings.

FFXI Easter event kicks off
Tuesday, April 12th, 2011The Egg Hunt is on! Players who log in to Final Fantasy XI between April 12th – 26th will be able to participate in the game’s Easter holiday event in which eggs are hidden around the three capital cities of Bastok, San d’Oria, and Windurst.
